Toy Story 4 has been confirmed, and even has a release date. Woody and the gang will be back on the big screen on June 16, 2017.
This is not the first time the gang get back together after the hit third instalment of the franchise. There have been a number of adverts for Sky in the United Kingdom, and the group got back together last year for a straight-to-TV Halloween short, Toy Story of Terror. A small number of favorite toys, including Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Mr. Potato Head, found themselves trapped in a motel overnight and almost sold. Jessie got over her fear of boxes to save Woody before it was too late.
Another short is expected for a TV special Toy Story That Time Forgot. This is expected to air on December 2. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their roles for the short movie, and are expected to reprise their roles for the fourth instalment in the franchise. However, official casting has not yet been announced, and it is unclear whether others will reprise their roles.
There are mixed feelings over another instalment in the series. However, directors John Lasseter and Lee Unkrich are looking forward to it. The two directed the first and third movies respectively. The third instalment in 2010 returned after a long break, and grossed $1 billion around the world. There is hope that the fourth movie will manage something similar. It is clear that families still love the talking toys.
The date for the Toy Story 4 has now been confirmed for June 2017. It gives everyone time to create the new chapter in the lives of the toys. They are now with Bonnie, after Andy gave them away at the end of the third instalment, including his beloved Woody.
Lesseter confirmed that the movie was not just a way to make money. The only time he wants to do anything with the characters on such a scale is if the storyline is going to live up to and exceed previous stories. There was a long break between even discussing plans for continuing the character’s storylines. Bringing Woody’s journey with Andy to an end just ended the franchise well. That was until he, Unkrich and others came up with a new idea, and they could not help but think more about it. Lesseter knew from there that he had to make the movie, and he had to be the director.
Andrew Stanton and Pete Doctor, who directed Finding Nemo and Up respectively, have also been involved in the new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz and the gang. So far, nothing has been given away, but it is expected that they will be Bonnie’s toys. The question is which character is going to go missing this time and need saving?
Rashida Jones and Will McCormack will join the directors as the writers for the script. Lesseter stated that he wanted a strong female voice on the script, and Jones is the perfect person for that. It will be interesting to see which of Bonnie’s toys will join the cast for Toy Story 4, which already has a confirmed release date of June 16, 2017.
