Dustin Diamond ‘Screech’ Arrested for Stabbing Man Late Christmas Eve

Dustin Diamond, perhaps better known by Saved By the Bell fans as “Screech,” was arrested in Wisconsin early on Friday, December 26, and is now behind bars. Police arrested Diamond after he allegedly stabbed a man in a bar with a switchblade late Christmas Eve or early Christmas morning at a bar.

Police charged Dustin Diamond, 37, who was one of the stars of the 1990s sitcom, Saved By the Bell, with carrying a concealed weapon, reckless endangerment and charges of possessing a switchblade, according to 9news.com.au and other sources like TMZ. Diamond played Samuel “Screech” Powers, a brainy but socially inept 8th grade student, in the popular TV series.

Diamond’s IMDb page states that he began playing the role when he was a fifth grader for a 1987 TV series called Good Morning, Miss Bliss. That evolved into, by 1989, Saved By the Bell. The series ran through 1993. Diamond also played Screech in Saved by the Bell: The College Years, from 1993-94, the TV movie, Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas, and in Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which ran from 1994-2000. In all, Diamond played Screech for a total of 13 years, according to an article in USA Today.

Since then, Diamond has continued to act, in smaller roles, and he has appeared on game shows and reality TV programs like Britain’s Celebrity Big Brother in 2013. He voiced animated characters in Robot Chicken in 2008, and in 2013, he played the lawyer, Saul Goodman, from Breaking Bad in a comedy spoof short film called Breaking Belding. Dustin Diamond was Professor Donnely in the 2014 film, College Fright Night, and Diamond is now a stand-up comedian. He has a new TV series that is in the works, called The Reel Deal, that was announced in 2014.

According to a police sheriff, during an argument late on Christmas Eve at a bar north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the town of Port Washington, actor and comedian Dustin Diamond stabbed a man and then fled. He and his girlfriend were arrested shortly afterward, as they drove away from the Grand Avenue Saloon, according to a statement by the police. Diamond’s girlfriend was arrested on the charge of disorderly conduct.

The man who Dustin Diamond allegedly stabbed with a knife was treated for his wounds, which were not life-threatening. An officer with the Port Washington police stated that the man is recovering at home.

According to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from 2009, Dustin Diamond had lived in Port Washington as recently as 2009.

When Dustin Diamond appeared in court on Friday, the judge set his bail at $1,000. According to an Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office jail clerk, December 29 is the date scheduled for Diamond’s next court appearance.

Dustin Diamond, who played Screech in Saved By the Bell, allegedly stabbed a man at some point during a heated argument either late on Christmas Eve or early Christmas morning. He and his girlfriend were arrested by the police. His public defender was not available for a comment.

    He’s been a liability for years (perhaps trying to make for playing that god-awful character for so long) and done some pretty indecent things, but this is absolutely a step too far and he needs to be reigned in and prosecuted. He could have killed the man!!

    TV has so much to answer for…
