Freddie Prinze Jr. is learning to walk again. The star went through spinal surgery before the Thanksgiving holidays. However, he tweeted that he is on the road to recovery, and asks his fans not to worry too much about him.
Prinze Jr. is best known for his role of Fred in the Scooby Doo movies. He went on to marry his I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star and Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar. However, he also appeared on 24, where his experience with Keith Sutherland reportedly almost led to him giving up acting for good.
The 38-year-old has not completely shared the full reason for the spinal surgery. He tweeted to say that he had some disc problems, and E! Online has assumed that it is similar to John Cena’s spinal problems. The WWE wrestler went for spinal surgery in August 2008 to remove a compression of disc fragments on his spinal cord. For Cena it meant a nerve weakening in his right arm.
According to the entertainment news site, doctors cut into Prinze Jr’s neck and he now has to have a brace while he recovers. He has since been given the nickname Robo-Neck due to the brace. He has also received stitches.
The good news is that it should only take a couple of weeks to recover from the surgery. He is on pain medication at the moment, though, and he is sharing updates regularly.
Prinze Jr. says that he is learning to walk again after the surgery, and taking each day at a time. He likened the learning process to that of learning Ju Jitsu. It is all about learning one single technique at a time.
The She’s All That actor has used Twitter to joke about some of the entertainment news surrounding his surgery. He tweeted about one source saying that the surgery was to freeze his DNA, and encourages his fans to follow his updates. He will only tell fans the truth, although does ask that there is some respect for his privacy. He is not going to share all of his private medical information.
Prinze Jr. married Gellar in 2002, just two months after the release of their first Scooby Doo movie. They now have two children together, and are reportedly very happy. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress is busy looking after her husband after his surgery, and he likely has two doting children doing everything possible for their father.
On Twitter, he has also acknowledged his respect for those in martial arts since learning to walk again. He spoke about how mental training and visualizing techniques would help with the learning process. It would mean once he is healthy again, he will not have to think about it all.
Since being released from the hospital, he has shared a range of photos of himself. All sport his new neck brace, and have him in various positions simply loving the world. Prinze Jr. is on the road to recovery and learning to walk again.
