Green Day Guitarist James White Fighting With Cancer

Green Day

Green Day guitarist James White has recently been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. The news comes as a surprise to fans, who are considered about the well-being of the band. As a whole, the band has been through a rough year, but they remain hopeful in the speedy recovery of White.

The band made the news known December 5 through their website. During a standard tonsillectomy it became apparent that White had tonsil cancer. He was very fortunate, tt was discovered so quickly that it seems he will make a full recovery. The rest of the band asks for support from their fans regardless, inviting them to offer “positive healing vibes during the time.” Which fans have been doing in turn. The original twitter post from the band has more than hundreds of comments and thousands of likes.

This has been a difficult year for the band. Back in May the band’s bassist Mike Dirnt suffered tragic news when his wife became diagnosed with breast cancer. Yet this the band is remaining united in such times.

White originally met up with lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong when they headed the side project Pinhead Gunpowder in the nineties. At that point White joined Green Day as the second guitarist for their tours and has continued to do so ever since and eventually took the role of lead guitarist during live shows.

Green Day has been making music since the beginning of the 1990’s. They made their biggest splash with their third album Dookie in 1994. Five singles emerged from the album and it propelled the punk rock genre into the light of mainstream music, making Green Day a commonly known band. To this day the album has sold more than 20 million copies globally. In 2010 the band had their own version of Rock Band that features songs from their entire catalogue. In 2009 the band went on the release 21 Century Breakdown, before they began work on a trilogy of albums starting with ¡Uno! moving onto, ¡Dos! and finishing up with ¡Tré!. Plus, this year was none other than the 20-year anniversary of Dookie, which remains a happy memory for many people.

Green Day is one of the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2015. Their competition is brutal because other contending artists include Nine inch Nails, The Smiths, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Stevie Ray Vaughan among others. It is true that they have marked left a park on the history of music in a memorable way, but all bands being considered have in their own way.

With so much tragedy and support, Green Day informs fans that James White indeed has tonsil cancer. It seems as though it has been discovered early enough to be treated. The band wanted to be the first to inform the fans who have since shared their concerns and support for Green Day and James White. The future of the band and its member is uncertain, but remains entirely hopeful.
