This Thursday night, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon continued the week in grand style, with Fallon’s guests, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Barbara Walters. Jimmy and Dwayne played a pair of enlightened telepathic monks on a snowy mountain top in a skit called Intense Staredown. The musical guest was the immensely talented Rick Ross, featuring K. Michelle.
Jimmy Fallon started off the Tonight Show by giving his studio audience a warm welcome. He then began his comedy monologue, in which he jokes and comments about what is in today’s headlines. A few of the jokes follow, in a paraphrased form.
“Here’s what everyone’s talking about,” Fallon began.”George Bush and Dick Cheney may not have known the location of the detention facilities. Of course, the first three years, he didn’t know the location of the White House.”
“Congress managed to avoid another shutdown by agreeing on a compromise spending bill. I’ll tell you what I’m talking about in a segment called Splitting the Diff,” Fallon said. He then went on and did a comedy bit where the Republicans and Democrats “compromised” on made-up issues.
“There’s a new study that says male rats respond to fetishes. It’s a true study — the male rats responded sexually more to female rats dress up in lingerie,” Jimmy Fallon said.
Continuing, Fallon joked “This week is Santacon, where thousands of people dress up as Santa Claus and go from bar to bar getting drunk.”
“Netflix has plans to introduce a new show every two weeks,” Jimmy Fallon continued. “I’m not sure that they really have enough ideas to do that.” Then a bunch of titles showed up on the TV screen of variations on Orange Is the New Black.
Jimmy Fallon announced Friday’s guests, like Martin Freeman, then he said that tonight’s guests are Dwayne Johnson and Barbara Walters. The musical guest, he said, will be Rick Ross.
Then, he did his weekly “Hashtag” comedy bit. This week, the hashtag topic was “Hanukkah Songs.” Fallon song the tweet “Shalom, is it me you’re looking for?” Other songs people made up follow.
“All I Do is Spin, Spin, Spin my Dreidel.”
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Saul Goldstein.’
“Hold Me Kosher, Tiny Dancer.”
“You’ve Lost That Leavened Feeling.”
“I Came In Like a Matzah Ball.”
After that, Jimmy Fallon gave away a Christmas sweater, as he is giving one a night away for his “12 Days of Christmas Sweater” comedy bit. He read out the number of the winning chair, #297. Fallon then ran up the aisle to give the woman who won her Christmas sweater.
After the commercial break, when the Tonight Show returned, he and Fallon talked to each other mentally as they say upon a mountainside and communicated telepathically in a bit called Intense Staredown. It was very, very cool — check out the video below!
When The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon came back from another commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced Dwayne Johnson, who has a new show called Wake Up Call. Fallon thanked him for doing the Intense Staredown skit with him.
Then, Fallon showed a photo of Dwayne in a turtleneck leaning on a rail with tissue under his arm. He showed photos of people who dress up like him in the photo for Christmas. Dwayne gave Fallon a gift, of an action figure of Fallon he had made up, of an Exhausted Father with baby puke on his clothes.
“Your new show is positive, cool, and thoughtful, a reality show called Wake Up Call,” Jimmy Fallon said. The show will be on TNT beginning Friday, December 12.
“The idea with Wake Up Call,” Dwayne said, “was to create a show about people who fell on hard times, tough times, and helping them get back on their feet. There are no cash prizes, though — the prize is transformation.”
Dwayne mentioned the story about one example of an 18-year-old who wanted to be a UFC fighter. Fallon showed a clip of Dwayne taking the teen to see men on a chain gang cleaning up the side of a road, to show him where his life could be headed.
“You are going to be a great man someday,” Johnson told the teen, who broke down, as probably very few people had ever told him that before. Then, the Tonight Show went to a commercial break.
Back from the break, Fallon introduced Barbara Walters. He said that she will have an interview special this Sunday, December 14, on ABC.
“The last time I was on, you wanted to take a bubble bath with me,” Barbara said. Fallon had a mock-up done showing himself and Barbara in a bubble bath tub, as he thought it would be good to interview her in one.
Barbara gave Jimmy Fallon a gift for his newborn daughter. It was a pink onesie. He talked with Walters about the upcoming interview special. She will be interviewing Taylor Swift, Chelsea Handler, Oprah Winfrey (for the fourth time), and others. She refused to tell him who the most fascinating person was who she will be interviewing, though.
“I’m so happy that you have this new addition in your life,” Walters said, referring to Fallon’s baby daughter, Frannie (Francis). Then, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon went to another commercial break.
After the commercial break, when the Tonight Show came back, Jimmy Fallon introduced Rick Ross, who sang If They Knew, featuring K. Michelle, off of his latest album Hood Billionaire, which will come out November 24. Rick had on a red jacket with leather sleeves, a white shirt underneath it, and tons of gold chains, of course. He also wore shades. The song was great, and K. Michelle added some of her terrific vocals to the song, as well. Rick Ross proved he is still one of the best rappers around.
