Kinky Sex Motive for Murder

A sensational trial involving murder-for-hire and a prop-filled sex dungeon in an upscale Detroit suburb is winding down after sensational twists worthy of How To Get Away With Murder or CSI. The two-month long murder trial of Bob Bashara, 56, who is accused of hiring someone to kill his wife with the motive of furthering his kinky sex fetish, is in closing arguments with the rebuttal argument to be presented on Thursday. However, experts say the outcome is hard to predict.

On Jan. 25, 2012, a 56-year-old woman named Jane Bashara was found strangled to death in her Mercedez-Benz SUV. Since that day, titillating details have been unveiled in the first-degree murder trial of her husband that have recounted his salacious secret life in Grosse Pointe, Mich.

According to prosecutors, Bob Bashara is accusing of hiring a mentally-challenged handyman to murder Jane. The handyman, Joseph Gentz, 50, has already pleaded guilty to the killing, for which he was allegedly paid with money a Cadillac and jewelry. He is also accused of conspiracy to commit murder, obstruction of justice and even intimidating witnesses.

Bashara tried to present himself as a committed family man and active charity fund raiser. But the trial is painting a different picture of someone who contracted for a murder with a desire to continue his kinky sex life as a motive.

The defendant was known in bondage, discipline and sadomasochism (BDSM) circles by the nickname “Master Bob.” He reportedly had a sex dungeon below an area bar, where he took his mistress and other women to engage in bondage and sex acts. He and his mistress frequently attended BDSM parties in the area. Other reputed details involve cocaine use, taking out-of-state trips with women while lying to his wife, and even planning to purchase a new home with another woman.

Testimony was presented during the trial from over 70 witnesses. Jurors heard recorded phone calls, viewed emails and phone records as well as photos from the crime scene. Several women who engaged in BDSM with the defendant also appeared during the trial.

One witness whose testimony drew a lot of attention was from the Bashara’s young-adult daughter Jessica. She said she caught her father viewing pornography many times. She also found text messages on his phone and other details about his extramarital sex life, all of which her father explained away

Testimony was also presented relating potential missteps in the investigation by the policy in Grosse Pointe Park. According to statements given during the trial, they were accused of being inexperienced at investigating homicides, missing key deadlines, and failing to turn over information promptly.

The jurors did not hear from the two people reportedly to be involved in the crime. Bashara opted not to testify and Gentz apparently refused to unless his sentence was reduced, a request that was denied.

Defense attorney Michael McCarthy has claimed that the defendant had no desire for his wife’s death. McCarthy argued that Bashara and his mistress could have continued to lead their kinky sex filled double life so what motive was there for a murder. Later this week, it will be up to the jury to decide.
