An accident involving an eight-ton truck in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa resulted in one person dying of injuries after being thrown clear of the vehicle and two passengers being injured. The accident took place near Durban, on the R102 in Verulam. According to witnesses, the driver unexpectedly veered into the opposite lane, hitting barriers and eventually flipping over onto the road. The person who died was reportedly trapped under the wreckage, unable to get free. Rescue workers attempted to get him free and treat his injuries, but they were too severe, and he did not survive despite the best efforts of paramedics. The two passengers suffered injuries considered to be relatively minor, and were sent to a local hospital for treatment.
No explanation has been offered yet as to what may have caused the driver to suddenly lose control of the vehicle. A complete investigation is underway by South African authorities to determine the details of the crash and the events leading up to it.
