It has not been an easy time for Bonnie Bennett, but The Vampire Diaries witch will reportedly be a “badass” in 2015. Executive producer Caroline Dries hinted that this is the time for the young witch to show exactly what she is capable of, and there were hints of that in the midseason finale this week. During the episode, Bonnie burnt a Christmas tree, possibly to prove to herself that she means business.
From the start of season six of The Vampire Diaries, Bonnie has been trapped in a new “other side.” She was originally with Damon, and it seemed like the two had formed some sort of friendship. They were reliving the same day over and over again, but it worked for them and at least they had company.
They soon found that they had more company than they bargained for in this new “other side.” A witch called Kai was around, and he wanted help to get back to the living world. Since Damon and Bonnie also wanted to get there, they started to help him, only to find out that he had dangerous ulterior motives. They could not let him go back to massacring the world.
Bonnie ended up sacrificing herself to help Damon escape to get back to Elena. She thought that the vampire would help get her back, and he has certainly tried. However, it all seems pointless and Bonnie has been left completely alone.
Maybe this time away from everyone and the need to survive on her own will turn Bonnie into a “badass” in 2015 on The Vampire Diaries. Dries stated recently that being stuck in this prison of 1994 Mystic Falls is making the Bennett witch a strong, young woman. She knows that only she can get herself out of there, and she will do everything she can to make sure it happens.
The question is how it will change her. She has hardened in the past, and it almost alienated her from her fans. While she focused on her revenge for her grams’ death, she was being pushed further and further away from Stefan. He may have not been responsible directly, but his kind were. The only reason he put up with him was because of Elena, and tried to be good for her. Relationships were mended over time, especially when Caroline became a vampire, but Bonnie has always been a strong woman.
This could completely change her for when she does return. It will impact her relationship with everyone around her, including Jeremy. There may even be some resentment when she finds out that Jeremy gave up on her, despite Elena saying that there was a chance to bring her back.
The Vampire Diaries is not on its winter break. The last episode teased the change in her character, but it is difficult to do much when she is all on her own with nobody to talk to. Hopefully it will not be too long before she gets back around someone she can have a conversation with on the show. The main thing about the storyline is that it is setting up for Bonnie to be a “badass” in 2015 on The Vampire Diaries.
