Many shows are airing their midseason finale this week, and The Vampire Diaries is no different with Christmas Through Your Eyes. It was a bittersweet Christmas for the former Mystic Falls crew, with Bonnie reminiscing about her times with her friends. It must be hard stuck in 1994 Mystic Falls all alone.
For Kai, it was all about meeting up with his twin sister. It was not a happy one for the other family members, though. Kai’s idea of fun is stabbing Jo in the arm and melting baby sister Liv’s brain. In the end, Jo did the one thing that she did not really want to. She reclaimed her magic, and now it seems like she will be a force to be reckoned with on The Vampire Diaries.
Kai did suck up the Travellers’ spell, though, but it meant that he became more powerful than he already is; and more psychotic, maybe. However, he also decided to have some fun and games with Alaric and Damon, which included making Elena invisible through a cloaking spell. Tyler is not helping any of this situation, as he is wholly focused on keeping Liv alive and that is all.
Steroline fans had a moment they could smile at during the midseason finale of The Vampire Diaries. Despite being angry at him for not being around, yet again, Caroline turns to him when her mom is in hospital with a glioblastoma that has now reached her brain stem. It seems Stefan is those arms of comfort that Caroline needs, and there is the possibility of something more in the future.
In Christmas Through Your Eyes, The Vampire Diaries midseason finale, Matt and Jeremy are working together. However, Jeremy is worried about his friend and housemate. While they have Enzo all tied up, Matt is being guided by his emotions, and right now that is not a good thing. Jeremy argues that Matt’s anger will get him killed, and there is a problem when Enzo beats Matt and throws the human into the back of his own van.
Bonnie, still stuck in 1994, was having a lonely Christmas. There were the odd scenes of her reminiscing about the past, and it looked like she was ready to give up and accept her fate. That was until the point where she burns the lonely Christmas tree she found. There is still a fight inside the little witch, and she will find a way out of the hell that she has found herself trapped in. All that seems to be promised for the second half of the season.
Of course, her friends have not forgotten about her. Elena spends the episode researching to find the Ascendant, which is essential for getting Bonnie back. However, Kai obviously does not want it found. They could use it to send him back. That leads to The Vampire Diaries moment where Elena becomes invisible to her ex-boyfriend, who she believes she is getting romantic feelings for again.
It was not the most exciting or nail-biting midseason finale for the show. However, this week’s The Vampire Diaries, Christmas Through Your Eyes, certainly gives fans a reason to tune in when the show returns on January 22.
