CBS is looking for the next Supergirl and it may be The Vampire Diaries’ Claire Holt. After leaving Australia for Hollywood, the 26-year-old actress has done well for herself. Starting with small roles on the likes of Pretty Little Liars, she quickly landed the role of Original Vampire Rebekah. That character moved onto the spin-off The Originals, and is now a returning character after deciding to take some personal time.
It looks like she now has her sights set on bigger roles. One of those is of Kara Zor El, otherwise known as Supergirl. The comic book character escaped Krypton before it was destroyed, and turns up on Earth to find her cousin, Kal El; A.K.A Superman/Clark Kent. However, it is unclear just how much Clark Kent will appear. CBS is planning to do the first comic book adaptation with a female lead.
Having Holt play the role would be perfect. Not only does she naturally look like the Supergirl from the comics, with her long blonde hair, but she also has experience in playing powerful characters. Her role on The Vampire Diaries and then The Originals was manipulative, rough around the edges but caring all at the same time. Her character Rebekah cares about her family, but just wants to be loved at the same time.
CBS already has a heavy commitment to the show, according to reports, and getting the perfect female for the role is essential. The Vampire Diaries’ Holt may be in for the running as the next Supergirl, but there are others screening, too.
Many fans of the actress may be surprised by her decision. It was only earlier this year that she made the decision to quit acting for a while to focus on her personal life. She left The Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals, part way through the season and has only been back a handful of times when the show has really called for her character. She most recently appeared last week when her character became the focus for others.
After spending so much time away from family, she decided that it was time to go back home. The actress is a family girl at heart, but was in two minds due to loving her role from The Vampire Diaries so much.
Her acting hiatus has not lasted long at all. She is in the middle of filming for Aquarius, opposite David Duchovny. This is a new 1960s police drama for NBC. The storyline is all about a cop who takes to undercover work as a way to track the Manson Family, more specifically Charles Manson, before their murder spree. It is set to air next year.
According to some details about the new Supergirl show, Kara has been living on Earth as a normal human being. However, at 24, she decides that she wants to embrace her powers. Other details have not yet been shared. It is unclear how that will affect Holt’s other acting commitments if The Vampire Diaries actress does play the next Supergirl.
