Both the Facebook and Instagram social network sites are currently down and unreachable for millions of users world wide. This is the first time Facebook has gone down since it did so twice during the month of September. No statement has been released yet about why the sites are unreachable for so many, but an announcement of some sort is expected soon. Though the actual site is down, the messaging app owned by the social networking giant, WhatsApp, is still functioning normally.
Given the number of people normally using the social network at any given time, an outage like this has quickly become big news on the web, with millions taking to the net to find out what is going on. Speculation about whether this is a simple technical issue or some sort of attack against the network is running rampant. There will likely be a statement given soon in order to calm the tide of concern beginning to rise among users wondering what this interruption of service means to them.
