Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about her celebrity breakups and Jennifer Lawrence on Wednesday. She was on Howard Stern’s radio show, where she answered questions about her personal life. A variety of subjects came up, but her previously relationships was the one that Stern mainly focused on.
The Oscar-winning actress was on the SiriusXM to promote her new movie Mortdecai. However, the biggest questions were all about her previous relationships, including those with Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Chris Martin. She was very open about her reasons for breaking up with the men she fell in love with over the years.
When it came to Pitt, she admitted that she was too young. It is difficult to make decisions at 22, which she was when she first met Pitt. They dated for two years after starring in Seven together, and were engaged two years later. However, they split up around a year later and Pitt went on to marry Jennifer Aniston and most recently Angelina Jolie. The late Bruce Paltrow, the actress’ father, was devastated about the break up.
However, she did go onto talking about Affleck, who was not as popular as Pitt when it came to her parents. They had an on-again off-again relationship for three years from 1997. The problem for her parents was that he was not in the right place for a girlfriend at the time. She did go on to say that he has matured since then. Affleck and Jennifer Garner married in 2005.
While talking about her breakups, Paltrow also opened up about Jennifer Lawrence possibly dating her ex-husband, Martin. There were many rumors that she hated her, but the Iron Man actress says that that is not the case.
During the interview, Paltrow explained that she had the upmost respect for her ex-husband. He is a great father, and would not put his children at risk for the sake of a relationship.
When it did come to her decision to “consciously uncouple” from her husband last year, the Shakespeare In Love actress admitted that it is still hard. She previously explained that there are times she wonders whether they made the right decision, but they are very good friends. They have focused on the positives from their past, and that helps to create a “drama-free” environment for their two children, Apple and Moses. There are times that they would prefer not to be around each other, but they do a lot for their children to put them first.
After the two announced their split, many laughed at the phrase Paltrow decided to use on her website GOOP. However, she told Stern that she was not the one to create the phrase. It was used by Dr. Sedeghi and Dr. Shahrzad, and simply means a split with “minimal acrimony.” She and her husband decided that they needed to put their children first, and avoided the stigma attached to divorced parents.
Mortdecai is out in movie theaters next week. While promoting her new movie on Stern’s radio show, Paltrow opened up about her past breakups and how she really feels about Lawrence.
