One of the stars of the infamous Harry Potter series was rushed to the hospital earlier today, reportedly suffering from flu-like symptoms. Robbie Coltrane, who portrayed gentle giant Rubeus Hagrid throughout the film adaptations, became ill during a British Airways flight headed from London (England) to Orlando, Florida.
Sources say that paramedics met the actor at the destination gate, and subsequently transported him to hospital for further examination. He is said to be remaining at said facility overnight, in order for officials to better monitor the situation and see if further action needs to be taken in order to keep the 64-year-old’s health up to pristine standards if at all possible.
Fellow actor Michael Gambon, who played the role of Hogwarts professor Albus Dumbledore from the second movie installment until the last (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), is said to have also been present on the flight in question. It is not yet known whether the two were seated together or whether he had any interaction with the actor in question at all during this incident. The two were reportedly headed to Orlando in order to attend a Harry Potter convention that was scheduled in the immediate future.
In terms of why the Harry Potter star was hospitalized following the aforementioned flight from London to Orlando, an alleged witness says that they saw Coltrane drinking heavily in the airport lounge of the terminal he was exiting from. Whether or not this is true has yet to be revealed, as right now the story is simply speculation with no hard evidence to either back it up or disrepute it.
Coltrane is not the first Harry Potter star to be involved in a health related illness in the past few months, although the reference in question refers to an actor who was not so lucky and unfortunately succumbed to the extreme possibilities of the circumstance. David Ryall, who played Dumbledore sidekick Elphias “Dogbreath” Doge in the final installment of the movie series, died this past Christmas Day at age 79. Regarding the cause of death, no information regarding the matter has yet been revealed to the public, and it does not seem as though any will come forth as the deceased’s family is intent on keeping the details private in order for them to better grieve amongst themselves and other loved ones of the late actor in question.
Richard Griffiths, veteran actor perhaps best known for playing the cruel but amusingly always irate Vernon Dursley (Harry’s uncle), died at the end of March 2013 due to the complications of a recent heart surgery. He was 65 years old. He was also known for his role as Uncle Monty in the classic cult film Withnail & I, also starring veteran actors Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann (who also did a small stint in the legendary Doctor Who television series.)
It remains to be seen whether or not Harry Potter star Robbie Coltrane will make a full recovery. More information on the matter has yet to be revealed.
