On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Fallon’s first guest was Nicole Kidman, who he played a game called Box of Lies with. The second guest of the show was comedian Patton Oswalt. He is always pretty funny whenever he has been a guest on the Tonight Show, and tonight was no different. The musical guest this Tuesday was The War on Drugs, who will be one of the musical acts performing at this year’s Coachella music festival, in April.
Fallon and the Tonight Show announcer, Steve Higgins, did a funny bit about “You’ve got Mail,” because Jimmy had made a reference to Verizon in his nightly monologue. Then, he joked about the Girl Scouts adding three new kinds of cookies, and he read a list of cookies that “didn’t make the cut,” like Fig Putin, with Vladimir Putin’s picture on the box, and Sour Jonathans.
Jimmy Fallon looked at the “Pros & Cons of Making a New Year’s Resolution.” Every week, he does a comedy bit about the “Pros & Cons” of different subjects. One of the “Pros & Cons” Fallon mentioned was one in which the Pro was making a New Year’s Resolution to stop drinking. The Con was something like “Eating Jello shots doesn’t count as drinking.”
Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest of the Tonight Show, Nicole Kidman, and said that she was going to be playing the villain in Paddington. He told his version of the story of when he first met Nicole Kidman, around the time she was going to star in Bewitched. He related that he did not know what to buy for her to eat when he was told she would be coming to his apartment.
Nicole said that he “was dressed in a baseball cap, and…nothing,” and added he “wouldn’t talk,” and he was more interested in “playing a video game.” She even said she thought about Jimmy Fallon that “maybe he’s gay.” That devastated Fallon, who went and laid down on the couch for the guests, as if it was a psychiatrist’s couch.
“Let’s talk about Paddington,” Nicole said, trying to change the subject.
“I remember I got Brie cheese — did I get corn chips?” he asked.
“Yes — and old Chinese food,” she answered. She mentioned he was wearing “sweats,” along with his baseball cap.
Finally, they got around to talking about Paddington. “The bear does have the most beautiful eyes,” she said.
“Everybody notices the chemistry here,” Jimmy Fallon said, standing up.
Then, he went back to the topic of the movie, and showed a clip from Paddington. The children’s stories about him are very funny. The mischievous bear from darker Peru who made his way to England is a beloved character around the world.
After a commercial break, Nicole Kidman and Jimmy Fallon played the game, Box of Lies. Fallon explained the rules, about how they will take turns either lying or telling the truth about objects in various boxes.
Nicole chose box #4 to begin the game with. She said it was “an old cheese sandwich with a bite taken out of it.” It was actually a slice of pizza. Fallon guessed correctly that Kidman was lying.
Jimmy Fallon then chose a box, and there was a hammer covered with stamps in it. He said the object was “a heavy thing, that weighs about three pounds. It is a statue, an award, maybe. That’s it — that’s all I’m going to give you,” he said. Kidman guessed correctly, also, that Fallon was lying.
The last box that Nicole looked inside had a Matchbox car in it, within a box of matches. Kidman said that there were “condoms,” in the box. Fallon guessed that she was telling the truth, when she was lying, so she wound up being the winner of the game.
Jimmy Fallon’s second guest was comedian Patton Oswalt. Oswalt has a new book out about being addicted to movies. Oswalt made up a story about when he first met Fallon, using many of the details that Kidman had used about when she first met him.
Oswalt said he “got stuck in the devouring stage,” when it came to seeing movies. He would check off classic movies that he saw in one of five books he had about films. He said that he was very serious about talking to people about the movies he saw, and he related a story to Fallon about watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The musical guest on the Tonight Show was The War on Drugs. Fallon said their latest album is Lost In The Dream, and they performed the song An Ocean Between the Waves off of it. The frontman of the group also is a great guitar player. He jammed on the guitar, displaying his virtuosity. The drummer kept up a rapid, steady beat throughout the song. They did a fantastic job, and will likely wow the audiences at Coachella in April.
On this Tuesday night episode of the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon, as usual, had some entertaining and cool guests, and he played Box of Lies with the lovely actress, Nicole Kidman. Patton Oswalt talked about his love of movies and how it became a sort of “addiction,” and the musical act, The War on Drugs, wrapped the episode up.
