An accident on FDR Drive has caused a massive backup in the middle of rush-hour traffic in New York City, causing delays and headaches for commuters and residents alike. The crash involved three SUVs in the southbound lane, close to the Manhattan Bridge. The New York Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services are all at the scene of the accident. The entire southbound lane was completely stopped for around half an hour, and one lane just re-opened.
Heavy traffic delays are expected to continue in both directions, however, for a considerable time to come. Nine people were injured in the crash, five of them were taken for treatment to a local hospital, but none of their injuries were described as serious. No details about the accident itself have been released beyond the number of injured. New York City authorities are working now to get the accident scene clear so that they can re-open all lanes as soon as possible.
