Paul Wesley gave his opinion on the final ending to The Vampire Diaries, and said that Stefan and Damon Salvatore should die for good. It would definitely be a fitting end, even if it would mean little chance for the show to pick up again sometime in the future if the show runners ever wanted to. However, the ending is not coming anytime soon with the show getting picked up for a seventh season.
The CW announced almost two weeks ago that all eight of its fall shows were getting early renewals. It was great news for the likes of The Vampire Diaries, since it means writers do not need to worry too much about their season finale. Cliffhangers can be used to draw people in to the next season, without the thoughts of being cancelled during the summer.
While season six is not going to be the end of the show, it has not stopped people talking about it. The show runners already know their end game, but are not sharing that with fans. It has led to speculations and fans talking about what they would like to see. Even the cast members have their own hopes for the way The Vampire Diaries should end.
For Wesley, he believes that Stefan and Damon should finally die and not come back at the end of The Vampire Diaries. Both characters have already died and managed to come back from the other side, but he would like to see a final moment for them. His reasoning is because they have already lived 160 years. They had their fun during that time, and ending it at the end of the series would be perfect.
At the same time, he has his opinions on Elena’s final moment. Rather than dying, he would like to see her character become human again. The Vampire Diaries seemed to get rid of that idea by allowing Amara die with the cure inside her, but this is the writers. They have found ways around every other problem—such as Elena having to die after Klaus’ transformation—so they can presumably find a way around this situation.
There are still questions over whether all the three main characters are returning for season seven of The Vampire Diaries. Rumors are that one of them has not signed on, yet, and there are many who suspect Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena, is leaving. Some of those rumors are linked to Ian Somerhalder’s relationship with new girlfriend Nikki Reed, who regularly shows up on set. However, these are just rumors. Sources close to the stars also say that there is no bad blood between them, and they get along well on the set.
Either way, the end to the show is not coming yet, but is already planned out. The show runners know exactly how they want it to happen, and it will reportedly happen within the next three years. For Wesley, his perfect ending to The Vampire Diaries would be killing Stefan and Demon for good and turning Elena human again.
