In the latest trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which James Spader provides the voice of Ultron, when the robot-gone-bad meets the Avengers, things do not go very well for the latter; at least, not at first. Spader’s menacing voice as Red Reddington on NBC’s The Blacklist carries over to his role as the voice of Ultron, and he has the fighting chops and firepower to give the Avengers all they want in a fight, and more.
Ultron, as fans of the comic books and Marvel franchise probably already know, is the creation of Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), who becomes Iron Man when he suits up. Stark creates Ultron as a way to keep the peace after the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the temporary disbanding of the Avengers, but things eventually go very badly with that plan when Ultron begins thinking for him/itself and develops his/its own agenda.
One of the very cool quotes in this new trailer is when Ultron/James Spader ominously says “Everyone creates the thing they dread.” That is certainly the case with the robotic creation of Tony Stark, as Thor is seen turning against Tony Stark/Iron Man in the trailer and holding him up by his neck.
Ultron grabs Captain America, played by Chris Evans, by his throat at another point in the trailer and threatens to “tear you apart from the inside.” The evil robot is possibly being literal, but likely also means that he plans to tear the Avengers apart, by getting them to turn against each other, as Thor does with Iron Man.
Later in the video, the Hulk and Tony Stark, in his “Hulkbuster” armor, have a huge battle against each other, as well. The Hulk’s eyes appear sort of red, which has caused some fans to speculate that he is fighting Tony Stark because he is under the power and control of the Scarlet Witch.
Among other superheros who we get to see glimpses of in the trailer are the Black Widow and Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Joss Whedon both wrote the screenplay for and directed The Avengers: Age of Ultron, scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
If the trailer is anything to judge by, the upcoming Avengers flick will be action-packed and take place in several continents, as cities worldwide are left in ruins by the fighting that ensues. Just when the Avengers should be steadfast in combating a common enemy, friend will turn against friend.
Some toys based on the new Avengers movie are already coming out, and they might give a hint about other aspects of the plot. One of the Ultron toys holds a mysterious device in its shiny metal hands, which might be what possibly triggers his transformation into a more advanced robot, and help in taking over the Avengers Tower.
Also, one of the new toys is an action figure of Rhodey (Don Cheadle) suited up as War Machine. An action figure of him probably would not have been made unless he will play a part in the plot of the upcoming Avengers movie.
Will Tony Stark’s creation end up destroying the Avengers? Unless the movie leaks online, it will be over three months from now before the movie is released. The latest trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron has already been seen over 9 million times. Anticipation is steadily building for this latest installment in the franchise, due out on May 1, 2015.
