The holiday season is one of the best times of the year for gamers to rack up on all the hot new video games on the market and commence hours upon hours of playing after Christmas has ended. This article will tell a bit about a few of the games that players may have unwrapped this holiday and are thanking Grandma or Great Aunt Jo for getting them.
Far Cry 4 is among one of these video games that can undoubtedly be seen being played on TV screens across the states. Players find themselves in the realm of Kyrat, a civilization based in the Himalayas. Taking control of a man named Ajay Ghale, players are caught amongst a civil war whilst traveling to Kyrat to fulfill their mother’s dying wishes. Players make use of a first-person shooter combat system in a beautifully detailed open-world map similar to that of the Skyrim gameplay. Numerous customization options are made available in the game as well, such as the feature of having to kill and skin certain animals to acquire preferred types of equipment. The title has proved to be a hit amongst gamers, as it is the sequel to the best shooter game of 2012.
For more fantastical gamers the likes of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is most likely added to their library of video games. Shadow of Mordor is an original action-packed RPG that takes place in the world of The Lord of the Rings. The storyline follows a ranger named Tailon who is trekking the treacherous realm of Mordor to avenge his family who was brutally murdered. The story stays true to all that J.R.R. Tolkien originally created within the world of Middle-Earth, but the game’s developers have filled in many holes that were left unexplained, allowing for a fresh new look at the realm audiences believed to have known so well. One very interesting aspect of the title is that every time one plays through the game, the story will be different. The storyline of the game will actually alter itself depending on the player’s actions. This is a feature very likely to entice game developers in the future.
Continuing on with video games found under the Christmas tree, the Xbox One exclusive title Sunset Overdrive is perhaps an unexpected contender. Placing on GameStop’s “Best Games of 2014” list, Sunset Overdrive offers a fresh new take on the zombie apocalypse style of game. Players have complete control over character customization and are enveloped in a colorful and exciting world that provides an alternative-punk feel, almost reminiscent of past Tony Hawk video games. The story features an original take on apocalyptic disasters as the human race has been contaminated by a new energy drink and are all turning into mutant monsters. The player’s character must unite with the few other survivors to find a way out of the city and overcome the mutant disaster all whist wise-cracking hilarious jokes and performing whimsical and entertaining stunts.
One final title for the younger gamers of the world is that of the Disney Infinity franchise. This title allows players to acquire actual physical figures that can be placed on a base and used as playable avatars in the game. The selection of characters range from classic Disney characters like Aladdin and Tinker Bell to some of the new Marvel super heroes such as the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Avengers. There were undoubtedly plenty of Infinity figures to be had underneath the Christmas tree this year.
The aforementioned titles were but a small few of the video games people are now playing after the Christmas season. Needless to say, 2014 was a great year for the gaming community and hopefully 2015 can reciprocate that production.
