The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has shattered all expectations of America’s new supercar. Although the capabilities of this car are truly astonishing, they do not come completely unexpected. The way in which the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is really special is that it merges a long list of luxury, high-tech features, and raw, nasty speed with a cheaper price than the $200,000-plus price tags of its international rivals.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 engine is an engineering masterpiece. The goliath supercharged 6.2-liter V8 under the carbon fiber louvered hood churns out a monstrous 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. With a curb weight of 3,542 pounds, the car is able to achieve 60 mph, from a dead stop, in 3.2 seconds, or an earth-shattering 2.95 seconds, depending on whether the buyer chooses a 7-speed or 8-speed transmission. With a top speed over 200 mph, a price tag of under $100,000 is not too bad.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 8-speed automatic transmission is one of the reasons for the blistering zero-to-60 time. The car comes standard with a manual-shift 7-speed transmission, but the quickest acceleration time comes from the 8-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. This advanced transmission rivals those made from the big car manufactures in Europe, shifting even faster than Porsche’s 7-speed dual-clutch PDK, found on the new 911. Car experts say the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 could be a benchmark for new technologies in transmissions and shifting capabilities.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a stunningly-crafted chassis and roof which is stronger than the previous model. The problem with convertible cars is that once the roof is removed, more subframe has to be added to the chassis to make it sturdier, thus adding a lot of weight to the car. However, the new aluminum chassis is 20 percent stiffer than the previous generation, fixed-roof Z06, which makes the car much lighter and allows better cornering even with the roof down. Moreover, GM has implemented carbon fiber into the removable roof which the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 60 percent sturdier than the previous model. Impressively, the Z06’s roof is able to be raised or lowered at up to 30 mph. In addition to the handling capabilities, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 boasts third-generation Magnetic Selective Ride Control, which comes standard. In fact, the suspension is so advanced that Ferrari leased the technology from GM to implement on their 458 Italia. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 also features many of the driver aids as a Ferrari like separate driving modes for weather, economy, touring, sport, and track. As well, all of the driver aids can be turned off to allow for a savage racing experience.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has the answer to one of the biggest problems with the previous models, the interior. In the past, clunky plastic panels, veneers of pleather, and flaccid seats made potential buyers go European for their interior wants and needs. However, the new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes with optional Competition Sport Bucket Seats built on magnesium frames, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a dashboard filled with a cornucopia of carbon fiber, brushed aluminum, and soft-touch Napa leather. The interior is also laden with a smorgasbord of gadgets, including a top-of-the-line navigation system, advanced multicolor heads-up display, 10-speaker Bose audio system, heated and ventilated seats, and 4G Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 also features gadgets to record zero-to-60 times, quarter-mile times, and top speeds.
For the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, prices start at $78,995 for the coupe and $83,995 for the convertible. If all the boxes on the options list are checked the price barely exceeds $100,000 – much less than a fully-loaded Mercedes, Ferrari, or Porsche.
As previously stated, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is magical when it comes to price and performance. According to test drivers, there are just a handful of cars that can speed past the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 on the drag strip or around a race track. If a potential buyer wants a car that looks amazing, is well-equipped, and drives like something that is over twice the price, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is that car.
