2017 Ford GT: Detroit Auto Show

The 2017 Ford GT supercar made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this month. It was one of the shining stars of the Auto Show, opening the eyes of both car enthusiasts and Ford supporters. The all-new 2017 Ford GT has its sightsset  on rivaling the all-new Acura NSX and Lamborghini’s flagship battlecruiser, the Aventador. Set to go on sale next year, the 2017 Ford GT is both aesthetically pleasing and unbelievably powerful.

Like the industry leading supercars, the BMW M5, Lamborghini Huracan, and McLaren’s MP4-12C, the GT will not possess a high-powered V12, V10, or even a V8 engine. Ford’s 2017 GT will feature a revolutionary 600-plus horsepower 3.5 liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, the same the engine found in the base model F-series trucks, albeit with much more speed, power, and violence. Moreover, the engine will be placed in the middle, just like the preceding GT cars. Furthermore, the 2017 Ford GT will not be made of melted down bridge girders and old ship hulls, it will feature a supercar standard characteristic of a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with both front and rear subframes made from aluminum.

Ford has also entered the supercar game with hypercar technology to boast. Like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari’s LaFerrari, the 2017 Ford GT will have active aerodynamics, meaning the car moves and shapes with its environment to better grip the road. It features a multi-position rear wing to enhance down force at speeds up to 150 mph. Impressively, the 2017 Ford GT will be one of the only production cars in the world to have an inboard, ride height-adjustable, pushrod-actuated suspension. Pushrod suspension is only found in the most expensive hypercars in the automotive world, developed from Formula One race cars. This type of suspension keeps the center of gravity towards the middle of the car when going around a corner, thus allowing more torque to power the car around a bend.

Said Deep, a spokesman for Ford Motors, stated the company will publicly share the price of the 2017 Ford GT closer to its release date. Though, it is projected that the 2017 Ford GT is expected to cost around $200,000. As for the amount they will produce, they will apparently build enough to be just an “exclusive” car, even less than the amount built for 2005-2006 Ford GT.

Jamal Hameedi, a Ford production designer, expounded upon the power output of the 2017 Ford GT and its all-new twin-turbo V6 engine. He explained the way in which they got the large amount of power out of the small 3.5 liter EcoBoost was not difficult at all. He said the car is not all about putting a Saturn V rocket underneath the hood in true muscle car standards, it is more sophisticated than that. The manufacturing and design of the car encompasses power to weight ratio, efficiency, and aerodynamics – the European way of designing supercars.

Since the 2017 Ford GT is being built in a more European way, it has its sights set on its European rivals from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. An American car has not stood up to a European one since the GT originally came out in the 1960’s. However, the 2017 Ford GT has the potential to give them a run for their money.
