On American Idol this Thursday, February 26, 2015, the Top 12 women competitors performed. As with the guys, who sang last night, the fates of the Top 12 women are up to the viewers of America, who get to vote for the ladies who they think did the best job of singing tonight in Detroit, Michigan. It was another great hour-long episode of American Idol — read on to find out what happened!
American Idol began with host, Ryan Seacrest, saying “Let’s get ready to party! This is American Idol!”
Ryan introduced the three judges, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban. Ryan said that eliminations will begin next week.
Lovey James, 16, sang first on American Idol. She sang the song Love Runs Out by OneRepublic. She did an AWESOME job, getting the show off to a great start. The audience clapped along as Lovey James sang.
Jennifer told her “That was awesome!”
Harry said “I thought that was good — you did a really strong job.”
Keith also said he thought that she had done a good job with the song. Lovey cried backstage, saying that they “were tears of happiness.”
Adanna Duru, 18, sang second tonight on American Idol. The song that she chose to sing was Rather Be. Adanna continued with another terrific performance tonight on American Idol. She showed a lot of attitude and sass, and NAILED this song.
Jennifer said “She’s going for blood. You’re so amazing! You’re 18 years old and you have so much to give.”
Harry told her “That’s the best I’ve ever heard you sing. You’re dangerous, man — you’re dangerous.”
After the first commercial break of the evening, Ohio native Alexis Gomez sang on American Idol. She played the guitar as she sang Gunpowder and Lead. The audience cheered and clapped along as Alexis sang. The entire audience was on their feet and Alexis KILLED this song!
Harry said “You’re so lovely and so natural on the stage! You shouldn’t sing with a twang if you don’t naturally have one, though.”
Keith said “If you feel uncomfortable with the guitar, get rid of it.”
Ryan Seacrest then introduced the quirky but wonderful Joey Cook, who played her squeezebox tonight as she sang on American Idol. She was AMAZING! The audience swayed their arms and clapped along as she sang, and Harry seemed to really enjoy her Zydeco-like version of Keith Urban’s song, Somebody Like You. The audience gave Joey a standing ovation.
Keith said “Joey, that was fantastic! You take a song and make it yours.” Then, American Idol went to another commercial break.
When American Idol came back from the break, host Ryan Seacrest introduced Katherine Winston, 18. She sang the beautiful, lilting song Safe & Sound. The audience members waved their arms in the air as Katherine sang, and they cheered her on.
“That was a beautiful song — gorgeous tone,” Keith said.
“You have a magical quality about your voice,” Jennifer told her.
Harry questioned her song choice, though he thought she sang the song well. He did not think it was captivating enough, it seems.
Next on American Idol, Shannon Berthiaume, 17, sang. The song that she selected to sing was Pink’s song, Who Knew. She chose a great song to showcase her vocal talents. The audience clapped as she sang.
Harry said “The wonderful thing about you is that you’re so green. You’re committed to the lyrics.”
Keith said that the song by Pink that she sang “was not a good choice for her.”
After the break, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest introduced Loren Lott, 24. Loren sang Note to God. her voice was beautiful and soaring, seeming to get more powerful as she continued to sing. The audience cheered and clapped for her. She really managed to sustain the last note of the song a very long time.
“Good job, sweetie,” Jennifer said.
“You’ve given everybody a run for their money,” Keith said. “That was a good job, really good.”
Then, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest introduced Shi Scott, one of the fan favorites on American Idol this season. She sang Umbrella. She has some strong pipes, and had the audience really into the song as she sang, clapping and cheering her powerful performance.
Keith said “That was powerful and gutsy,” but he did not really like her song choice.
Jennifer told her “You should go on for sure.”
Harry said “It just wasn’t the right song for you.”
Backstage, she said “I think I did the best that I could. I really want to stay.” Will the viewers of America vote to keep her in the competition on American Idol, and make her one of the eight women who move on? More commercials followed Shi’s performance.
The next performer who Ryan Seacrest introduced on American Idol was Maddie Walker, 16. She sang Love Gets Me Every Time by Shania Twain. She did a terrific job singing the song.
“You’re 17. I thought it was a good, solid performance,” Harry said.
Keith told her he did not think it was the best Shania song for her to have sung. Jennifer agreed with Keith, but wished her “Good luck.”
Sarina-Joi Crowe performed next on American Idol. She had tried out three times previously, and finally made it her fourth time. She OWNED the stage, and the song, as she sang Mamma Knows Best by Jessie J.
The audience clapped along as she performed, and Jennifer said she thought Sarina “rivaled Jessie J with that performance.”
Harry agreed, as did Keith. Sarina-Joi gave a very powerful performance tonight, and it was one of the episode’s highlights, along with the performance by Joey Cook earlier of Somebody Like You.
The next performer on American Idol that Ryan introduced was Jax, singing Bang Bang. She was totally AMAZING! The audience clapped energetically as Jax sang. She had a great stage presence.
Keith said “First of all, I loved it. I loved your honesty and integrity.” Both Jennifer and Harry said that they “were agreed” and they hoped to see her next week on American Idol.
Ryan introduced Tyanna Jones, the final performer of the night. She was also INCREDIBLE, singing Meghan Trainor’s hit song Lips Are Moving.
“I would say that puts you in the ridiculously talented category,” Harry said.
“That voice is from God himself — it was just crazy!” Jennifer Lopez said.
That was the end of tonight’s episode of American Idol. There were a lot of great performances tonight, with highlights coming from Joey Cook, Jax, Sarina-Joi Crowe, Loren Lott, Lovey James, Tyanna Jones and others. Ryan said that the eliminations will begin next week, and added that there will also be “an epic surprise.” Be sure to tune in next week to find out who gets eliminated on American Idol!
