Daredevil, which will air on Netflix beginning April 10, 2015, in a total of 13 one-hour long episodes, beginning at 12:01 AM PT in all territories where Netflix is available, will likely appeal to fans of the comic book series about a superhero who is a blind lawyer arguing legal cases by day and a crime fighter by night. Netflix has just released a new teaser trailer from the first episode, and if it is anything like what the rest of the show will be like, the series looks like it will be devilishly good. Check out the video clip below!
Matt Murdoch, who later becomes a lawyer fighting injustice in the courtrooms of Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, by day and a vigilante superhero by night, Daredevil, gets blinded when he is a young boy. However, his other senses are extraordinary and help him cope with his blindness. Also, the inventions he develops and circuitry within his cowl and cane further enhance his senses, so much so that many of the villains he encounters initially believe that he can see as well as anyone else can.
Daredevil is a creation of Marvel Comics. Like the superhero of DC Comics, Batman, Murdoch’s alter ego does not possess any special super powers, but he relies upon his intelligence, special weapons, deductive powers, fighting skills and his other heightened senses to combat crime.
In the upcoming TV series, which a press release from Netflix describes as being “a grounded, authentic, suspenseful and edgy action drama,” actor Charlie Cox plays Matt Murdoch and Daredevil. Vincent D’Onofrio plays the chief villain of the series, Wilton Fisk, while Rosario Duncan will play Claire Temple. Karen Page will be played by actress Deborah Ann Woll and Foggy Nelson will be played by actor Elden Henson. Other characters will include Ben Ulrich, played by Curtis Hall; Scott Glenn in the role of Stick; Ayelet Zurer playing the character Vanessa Marianna; and, the character, Wesley, will be played by Toby Leonard Moore.
Marvel’s Daredevil is one of the best-known lower tier of Marvel superheroes, and the series is intended to be a means to launch four other series featuring lesser-known Marvel superheroes to follow, as well as, ultimately, one called The Defenders, about a team of super heroes made up of Daredevil and the superheroes that will be spun off from it. The first series that will be spun off of Daredevil will be Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.
That one, about another lawyer Murdoch comes in contact with who is also a super hero, Jessica Jones, will lead into Marvel’s Luke Cage and Marvel’s Iron Fist. The Defenders will showcase the five super heroes working together as a team and fighting crime and we will also learn more about the evolution of Matt Murdoch into Daredevil along the way.
With the ratings successes of such superhero series like Arrow and The Flash on the CW, Netflix seems to hope that the same ratings magic will strike twice, for them, also, with Daredevil and the four other spin-off superhero series to come. Marvel and ABC entertainment have gone to great lengths to assemble a hugely talented cast of actors, writers, and people behind the scenes to make sure that Daredevil and the planned spin-offs will be big hits and attract a large fan base. Marvel’s Daredevil, the first original series on Netflix, is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.Check out the trailer below and please feel free to leave a comment!
