A full trailer over a minute and a half long has been released for the Netflix original Daredevil series set to premiere April 10. With some obscure and common references already made to the comicbook mythology, this series seems set to start off on the right foot. Like many trailers though, it keeps many things close to the vest. At the same time there are some very interesting revelations about this Daredevil series.
Right out of the gate, the trailer makes it clear that this series will be dark. From the lighting to the large amounts of blood and references to blurred morality lines it is right in line with one of Marvel‘s darkest superheroes. The confession dialogue playing throughout the majority of the trailer, while nothing new, adds to the dark tone. Superheros do not often ask for forgiveness, especially for what they are about to do. Hence, fans are sure to be pleased by the tone.
Throughout the clip, several characters were revealed or at least hinted. It starts with Matt Murdock as the lawyer who plays Daredevil in this iteration. Other known characters that appear to be in the trailer are Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Wilson Fisk, and Stick.
Karen Page is an early love interest of Matt’s from the comic books, and will be played by Deborah Ann Woll of True Blood fame. It is nice to see the show selecting an early point in Daredevil’s mythology, and an actress who has played in a successful supernatural show.
Another interesting character in the trailer was the massive black man seen only from the back. It’s been revealed that this is the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Anyone who saw the Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck should remember the character who in that movie was simply known as the Kingpin. As Wilson Fisk is Daredevil’s greatest enemy, seeing him in the first trailer for this new series reveals a likely intent to delve much deeper into this character than the aforementioned movie ever did.
Foggy Nelson is Matt Murdock’s best friend and law partner in the comics, and will be played by Elden Henson. He is one of few people who is always there through Matt’s highs and lows, and is a must in order to keep in line with the comics.
Another person, more obscure but easily recognizable and important is Stick; a frail-looking old blind man who is anything but frail. Stick teaches Daredevil to deal with his blindness. As a master martial artist, Stick teaches him everything about being a blind vigilante. Thus, he is central to Daredevil’s ability to become a superhero. In this new series, Stick is played by Scott Glenn.
Finally, the depiction of Daredevil’s enhanced senses was also teased at in the trailer. It will be exciting to see how these senses develop over the course of this series. The ball is most certainly in the creaters court. If they can continue the quality that is obvious in the trailer, this series has a bright future. The official trailer below reveals alot about this Daredevil series, but many more questions await.
