Grammy Awards 2015: Will Sam Smith Dominate ? [Preview]

Grammy Awards

Many fans are wondering if singer Sam Smith will dominate the Grammy Awards this year. The 57th annual Grammy Awards 2015 will air on CBS on Sunday February 8, broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET, and will be hosted by LL Cool J for the fourth consecutive year.

Sam Smith might very well be the night’s biggest winner on the Grammy Awards show, if the predictions of many hold true; but, other performers there, like Madonna opening up the awards show singing a few of her latest songs, might steal the spotlight from Smith, who is also scheduled to perform. AC/DC is another group who promises to deliver an amazing performance.

Among the many other musical artists and groups scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards 2015 show are Katy Perry, Hozier, Herbie Hancock, Miranda Lambert, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Beck and ELO. The list of presenters will also be a star-studded one, with celebs like Jamie Foxx, Gwyneth Paltrow, Smokey Robinson, Taylor Swift, Dave Grohl, Meghan Trainor, Stevie Wonder and Pentatonix being among others on the list.

Sam Smith, Pharrell Williams, and the ever-popular singer, Beyonce, led the pack of musical artists nominated for Grammy Awards this year with a total of six each. There are 10 musical performers and engineer Tom Coyne tied with four Grammy Awards nominations: Jay Z, Jack White, Gordon Goodwin, Iggy Azalea, Sia, Usher, Beck, Miranda Lambert, Drake, and Eric Church.

The Grammy Awards categories that Sam Smith has been nominated in are Best New Artist; Best Pop Solo Performance for Stay With Me (Darkchild Version); Song of the Year for the same song; Record of the Year, also for the same song; Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour; and, Album of the Year for In the Lonely Hour.

With her six nominations, Beyonce has attained the milestone of becoming the most-nominated woman in the history of the Grammy Awards. Also, Irish band U2 this year has become the most-nominated group ever, with the nomination of Songs of Innocence in the category of Best Rock Album giving the group a total of 46 nominations for Grammy Awards.

Miley Cyrus has been nominated for her very first Grammy ever for her album, Bangerz, which has been nominated in the category of Best Pop Vocal Album. The late, great Joan Rivers has been posthumously nominated in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for Diary of a Diva.

Singer Sam Smith faces stiff competition this year and he might not end up dominating the Grammy Awards, but he is likely to pick up at least a couple of the ones he has been nominated for. His competition in the category for Best Pop Solo Performance, for example, are John Legend, with All of Me (Live); Pharrell Williams, with Happy (Live); Sia for her performance of Chandelier; and, Taylor Swift for her hit song, Shake It Off.

Also, in the category of Album of the Year, perhaps the biggest award of the evening, Sam Smith has strong competition from the musical artist Beck for Morning Phase; Ed Sheeran, for his album X; Beyoncé, for her self-titled album, Beyoncé; and from Pharrell Williams, for his huge album, GIRL.

Will Sam Smith end up dominating the Grammy Awards this year? While many media sources are predicting that Smith has a very good chance of dominating the show and taking home the most awards this year, he definitely is facing some very tough competition. He might walk away as the night’s big winner, but that possibility remains to be seen.
