The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Thursday evening February 26, 2015, was another cool episode, with host Jimmy Fallon focusing his attentions and interviewing skills on James Spader from NBC’s hit series, The Blacklist, and his second guest, the lovely actress Margot Robbie, from Focus. Jimmy Fallon and Margot Robbie played a game of Flip Cup later in the episode. The musical guest on the Tonight Show was Tobias Jesso Jr.
Jimmy Fallon got a standing ovation from the audience and then he got the laughs started tonight with his monologue, joking about topics from the headlines of today. He said that, as of midnight, last night, “marijuana is officially legal in Washington, D.C.” He said that “The law has barely taken effect,” but there are already changes that have taken place. He then joked about some of these so-called “changes.”
Fallon said that tomorrow is the last day for Homeland Security to get funded. Then, Jimmy Fallon said that President Obama traveled to Florida in an event sponsored by Telemundo. Fallon said that “You can tell it was sponsored by Telemundo because after every question, the moderator would hug then slap him.”
Jimmy Fallon then joked that Eric Holder “confessed he was been dating Oprah Winfrey the past 12 years.” He then mentioned other politicians that “confess” to odd things. It was a pretty funny comedy bit.
Fallon mentioned that “Lady Gaga will become a series regular of the next American Horror Story, which will be called American Horror Story: Hotel.” Jimmy Fallon also joked about Madonna taking a bad fall at an English award ceremony.
After that, he showed a clip of people making igloos. The newscaster said “Too bad it’s all going to melt.”
Then, the house band, The Roots, played Jimmy Fallon to his desk. Fallon said that tomorrow, Josh Hutcherson would be one of the guests. On Monday, Ryan Reynolds and Terence Howard will be on. Tonight, Fallon said that actor James Spader and Margot Robbie will be his guests. He said that “Margot and I will be going head-to-head in a game of Flip Cup later.”
Jimmy Fallon then introduced his weekly Hashtags comedy segment. This week’s hashtag was #EmailFails. “Within 20 minutes, it was a Trending Topic in the U.S.” Fallon said.
Some he read were: “A woman thought that FYI in an email meant F.U., you idiot!” and “Meant to write an email that said ‘Hey, Jim, I’m afraid I can’t come tonight,’ but I accidentally hit Send after ‘Hey, Jim, I’m afraid.'”
Another example that Fallon read was “My mom emailed me and said ‘Your dad and I are going to divorce next month.’ She meant “Disney.” Yet another one was “My dad once typed out an entire email in the Subject Bar.”
After the Tonight Show came back from a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced actor James Spader from the immensely popular NBC series, The Blacklist. He said “I’ve been feeling slightly ill all day.”
“So, it was anticipation, butterflies?” Jimmy Fallon asked him.
“No, ill,” James Spader replied. “I guess it’s that anticipatory anxiety that comes from public speaking. One time I read a poll that said Public Speaking was either one or two on a list of people’s fears, neck-to-neck with ‘Getting Eaten By a Shark.'”
They talked about how cold weather can get into a person’s bones. Jimmy Fallon joked that “Cold Bones is a new TV series on NBC.”
Jimmy Fallon asked him to tell him “Good New York City stories.” He asked Spader to tell him about his first job. Spader related that he dropped out of high school when he was 17 and moved to New York City. He said he “had a complete lack of fear. It was the late 70s, so I was stoned. I moved into an apartment with my sister and slept on the floor.”
Spader told Jimmy Fallon that his first job in New York was at a large Greek restaurant. He related how Jackie Onassis Kennedy had gotten him the job. He said that “There was a big table and I was not much of a bus boy. I showed up with a tray at the table and dumped it all over the table.”
Jimmy Fallon then introduced a clip from The Blacklist that was very intense. A dude had his gun at the back of Spader’s head about to shoot him as the clip ended. Then, the Tonight Show headed to another commercial break.
Back from the commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced the second guest of the show, actress Margot Robbie, from Focus. In the movie, she plays the wife of Will Smith. “Welcome back, Robbie!” Fallon told her. He talked to her about having starred in The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, and he asked how how it happened that she now lives in London.
She told him that she and four of her women friends decided to move into a house together. Jimmy Fallon said “I heard a rumor that you steal toilet paper, from hotels.”
“No, no,” she protested, then stated “Well, I did, but just the one time.” She put the toilet paper into a Ralph Lauren bag. Jimmy Fallon showed a photo of her with the bag and an expression on her face that said “Don’t look in the bag!”
Then, Margot told Fallon about what a great guy Will Smith was, and she talked about the plot of Focus. It is a con movie, in which there are a lot of twists and turns.
“The end leaves it possibly open for a sequel,” Jimmy Fallon said. He wondered what it would be called, though — “Maybe Refocus?” He then showed a clip from the movie. It is the one from the commercial, but extended. “You get their focus, you take whatever you want,” Smith’s character said to her.
Jimmy Fallon then challenged Margot to a game of Flip Cup. She told Fallon “It is impossible to get Red Solo cups in England.” She had a friend bring her some so that she could practice up.
When the Tonight Show returned after a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon and Margot Robbie played Flip Cup. He explained the few rules of the game, and then the game was on. “The winner will take home a sleeve of Solo Cups and two rolls of toilet paper,” Fallon said.
They had to drink the contents of each cup, then flip each one over. Margot had the early lead but Fallon quickly caught up. They were neck-to-neck for a while, then…Margot flipped over her last cup before Fallon did, beating him, something that might have rarely, or perhaps never, has happened before.
The Tonight Show went to a commercial break, but when it returned, Jimmy Fallon introduced the show’s musical guest, Tobias Jesso Jr. Fallon said Tobias will be making his television debut tonight, and the song he will sing is called How Could You, Babe? from his upcoming album, Goon. Tobias played the piano as he sang.
It was a great song, kind of mellow, but it sounded really good. The background singers were awesome, as well, adding even more of a Gospel or Soul sound to the beautiful song. “His debut album, Goon, will be due in stores March 17!” Jimmy Fallon said.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was Spader-ifically good this Thursday, February 26, 2015. That was because — duh — Blacklist actor, James Spader, was Fallon’s first guest of the episode. He told Jimmy Fallon about how he had gotten his first job in New York City, and they also talked about the next episode of The Blacklist. Then, Fallon’s second guest was the beautiful actress, Margot Robbie. She and Jimmy Fallon talked about her latest upcoming movie, Focus. Finally, Tobias Jesso Jr. entertained Fallon’s studio audience and viewers across America with his cool song, How Could You, Babe?
