The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was back in New York City following a road trip last week in Los Angeles, California. Fallon’s guests this Monday evening were actor Jamie Dornan from the upcoming movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, and also the lovely model, Hannah Davis, who appears on the cover of the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Jimmy Fallon said it was good to be back, and then he began the Tonight Show with his comedy monologue, joking about the news and events that are trending in today’s headlines. For example, Fallon joked about “The Walking Dead, or as some people called it, the 57th annual Grammy Awards.” He also mentioned about Kanye West saying that Beck should have given his Grammy to Beyonce, and he poked fun of how Pharrell was dressed like a bell hop “or, like Usher,” he said.
“I don’t want to say they’re getting old, but when they sang Highway to H**l, they left their left blinker on,” Fallon said about AC/DC’s performance, opening up the Grammys.
Fallon continued, making a joke about cheating on taxes, saying “Twelve percent of Americans say it’s fine to cheat on your taxes, while the remaining 88 percent know it’s not a good thing to talk about your taxes to someone who has a clipboard.”
At his desk, Jimmy Fallon mentioned some of the guests who will be on later this week, like Dakota Johnson. Then, he said that tonight, from the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan will be here, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model Hannah Davis. He mentioned that Sheppard would be the musical guest.
Then, Fallon and The Roots did a comedy segment called “Freestyling with The Roots.” The first lady chosen from the audience was from Bangladesh. Jimmy asked her what she would like to see on a candy heart. She said “I love Jimmy.” Fallon asked The Roots to do the first song in the style of a Barry White love song. It was AMAZING!
Then, the second person that Jimmy Fallon selected from the studio audience was John. Fallon asked him what his favorite musical instrument was, and he said “A clarinet.” He said if he wrote a song about himself, it would be called “Thyself.” Fallon asked The Roots to sing the song about John in the style of a Frank Sinatra song. It was very, very cool, and the guy from The Roots who sang sounded quite a bit like Sinatra.
The third person Fallon selected was a woman who told him to be safe in a snowstorm, “Be sure to buy extra beer.” The woman’s name was Bridget. She told Fallon she got a kit to be able to make a snowman. Fallon asked The Roots to do “a sexy love song like a Boyz II Men song.” Jimmy Fallon danced with her as The Roots played. The Roots, once again, showed how great they are at thinking on their feet and gave a great performance.
After a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced the first guest of the Tonight Show, Jamie Dornan. It was Dornan’s first time on an American talk show. He said he was from Ireland, and there is a town there called “Holywood,” with just one “l.”
Fallon asked him about how Dornan first got into modeling, and asked him how he got the nickname “The Golden Torso.” He said he was “a skinny Irish guy,” and he did not know exactly how he got the nickname. Fallon showed a photo of Dornan in a Calvin Klein ad, and Dornan said they had put a lot of “tanning oil,” on him.
Jamie Dornan and Fallon talked about their mutual admiration of Don Rickles. He said his wife bought him two tickets to see Don Rickles in Atlantic City, and they flew there from London. He got Don to sign a personalized photo for him. Dornan has the photo framed in his bathroom, above his tub.
“It just so happens that wall is a plaster wall,” Dornan said.
“Yeah, right,” Fallon replied, “Right above a candle.”
Jimmy Fallon then asked him about Fifty Shades of Grey, and he had Dornan describe the clip they were about to play. It was the scene in the movie where Dornan shows Dakota his “play room.” She said, “With your Xbox and stuff?” and Dornan, who plays billionaire Christian Grey, shook his head, “no.” Then, the Tonight Show went to another commercial break.
Jimmy Fallon then played “Fifty Accents of Grey,” with Dornan. They would spin a random generator and Dornan and Fallon would take turns reading lines from the book. Dornan first had to do a Scottish accent. Then, Fallon was next, and did a Russian one, sounding like Vladimir Putin.
Another one that Fallon had to do was in a Cowboy accent. Dornan read a line in a County Court Irish accent. Fallon was next, and read a line in an Italian accent, but it sounded high-pitched, like maybe he was trying to imitate an Italian elderly lady.
Back from another break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his second guest, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis. Fallon and announcer, Steve Higgins, unveiled a giant blow-up version of the cover while the Tonight Show was on the road. Hannah definitely looks hot. Fallon said “Your boyfriend is Derek Jeter–” Hannah mentioned that when Jimmy Fallon met Derek Jeter, he was very nervous.
Hannah said she was being shot by the photographers in Tennessee at a farm. She did not know at the time that she would actually be chosen to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Fallon played a video of Hannah calling up her mom with the news that she had made the cover, and her mom was, of course, very happy and excited for Hannah.
After more commercials, Jimmy Fallon introduced the musical guest of the night, the band Sheppard. Fallon said that Sheppard would be singing Geronimo from their upcoming album, Bombs Away, that will out on March 10. They gave a very energetic performance, and the audience clapped along right from the beginning.
The band is from Australia. They had the audience in the palms of their hands. The lead singer sang parts of the song in the falsetto range. The backup female vocalists were pretty awesome, as well. The singer went out into the audience during the song as he was singing. They are on tour with Meghan Trainor, with her That Bass Tour, this winter. It was an amazing performance!
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was terrific this Monday, February 9, coming back from the show’s road trip to L.A. Fallon’s guests were Jamie Dornan from the upcoming movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, Hannah Davis. Then, the band Sheppard got the audience pumped up, as they closed the show with the song Geronimo.
