On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday, February 18, the show’s host, Jimmy Fallon, followed the one year anniversary episode marking when he took over as the show’s host with another great episode. He welcomed actress Sigourney Weaver from the upcoming movie, Chappie. Then, actor Andy Cohen, from Watch What Happens Live, was the second guest of the Tonight Show. The musical guest was the beautiful singer, Ella Henderson.
Jimmy Fallon welcomed his audience, who gave him a standing ovation. Then, he joked about political figures, celebs, and events in the news in his monologue. For example, Jimmy Fallon joked about the “frigid weather,” and said that “The Mayor of Boston issued a warning to the residents of Boston to stop jumping out of their second story windows into piles of snow.” He then showed a clip of people doing just that. It was pretty funny.
Then, Jimmy Fallon joked about Chris Christie saying that “There’s only one Chris Christie. That is, unless he’s buying airline tickets.”
He then showed Vice President Joe Biden standing to the side of and behind the wife of the new Secretary of Defense in a clip and said “See if you can tell when he goes ‘Full Biden.'” The clip showed Biden as the Secretary of Defense gave a speech, holding the shoulders of the Secretary of Defense’s wife as he stood behind her. Then, he leaned forward creepily and looked like he was smelling her hair or possibly whispering in her ear as her husband gave a speech.
Jimmy Fallon showed photos from the Westminster Dog Show. He then had word balloons added to say what the people and their dogs were actually thinking. He also made a joke about the world’s largest yacht, called the Triple Deuce. Fallon closed his monologue joking about a man who had written his wife a love letter every day for thirty years. He said that the wife responded with the word “‘kay.”
Jimmy Fallon mentioned who some upcoming guests would be, and then said that Sigourney Weaver from Chappie will be on. Pat Weaver, her father, literally invented the Tonight Show, he said. Fallon then said that the second guest of the show would be Andy Cohen, and the musical guest would be Ella Henderson.
Jimmy Fallon did a comedy bit about Tonight Show Definitions. He read the actual definitions of words like Lent, Uptown, Celery, Church, Floss and Vampire, and then he said what the Tonight Show‘s definition of the word was. He also pretended to talk to someone on the phone — it was really the announcer, Steve Higgins, speaking in a different voice. The Tonight Show definition of church was “a place Hozier really needs to run to.”
Jimmy Fallon said after a commercial break that last night, the Ben & Jerry ice cream flavor Tonight Show Dough was unveiled on the show. Then, he said that earlier today, he went down to the Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, an actual shop in 30 Rock. He showed a clip of people trying out a machine where a robot hand would feed them the new ice cream flavor.
Behind a cardboard cutout, manipulating the hand, was Jimmy Fallon, himself. Fallon would move the robot arm about, deliberately missing the faces of the customers. They would move their mouths to try to get the ice cream, and Jimmy Fallon would move the robot hand away from their mouths. All of the proceeds from sales of the ice cream will go to children with serious illnesses, to help send them to summer camp.
After a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest, Sigourney Weaver, one of the stars in the upcoming science fiction flick, Chappie. It will open on March 6. The Roots played and sang Dream Weaver as she took her seat. Jimmy Fallon called her “Tonight Show royalty.’
She said her dad would have been “thrilled,” that Jimmy Fallon was the host, and she said “There’s nothing this guy can’t do.”
During the Tonight Show After Party, Jimmy Fallon mentioned that Sigourney walked around taking pictures of everybody. He showed a couple of them to the studio audience.
Fallon said “There’s Will Ferrell in this photo.” Sigourney said “Will Ferrell — I knew I had met him.” Sigourney said she saw The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl when she was just 12 years old. She told Jimmy Fallon she was surrounded by all of these women who were screaming and cheering. She said that “I and this other girl were so overwhelmed, we were just wandering home. Then, a limo pulled up, and the Beatles were in it.”
She told Jimmy Fallon that she recently got an email from the Hollywood Bowl and they said they thought they had film of her at the Hollywood Bowl, and sent the footage to her. Fallon played the brief clip, and she was, indeed, in it.
After that, Jimmy Fallon and Sigourney talked about the movie, Chappie. In the movie, a family adopts a robot that they thought would help them do heists for them. The robot does not want to hurt anyone, so the family has to convince him by saying stuff like “That woman stole our car.”
Jimmy Fallon asked her if it was true that Sigourney would be doing another Alien movie. She did not outright say “yes,” but she strongly hinted that she would. Then, Fallon showed a cool clip from Chappie, and the Tonight Show went to another commercial break.
Back from the break, Jimmy Fallon then welcomed the second guest of the episode, actor Andy Cohen, who hosts and is the Executive Producer of Watch What Happens Live. Cohen told Fallon he was “incredible” at the NBC SNL 40th Anniversary After Party. He got himself a whiskey gin, and got a drink to hand to Jimmy Fallon, who was onstage. He gave Maya Rudolph his own drink, rather than Fallon’s, and she put it on the piano. Fred, of the B-52s, was also there and sang Love Shack.
Jimmy Fallon said that Andy Cohen has been on the New York Bestseller List for 10 weeks now. They talked about an anecdote in the book involving Cher wanting him to send photos of Andy’s vacation. Fallon said “You’ll love reading all of these stories,” in Cohen’s book.
Cohen said his tagline on his show was “I may be a man, but I fight like — a girl.” He brought three taglines for Jimmy Fallon to recite, like “I’m about to 30 Rock your world,” and another was “I would love to write you a ‘Thank You’ note, but I’m not sure you know how to read.”
When the Tonight Show returned from the second-to-the-last commercial break of the episode, Jimmy Fallon introduced the musical guest of the evening, Ella Henderson. She performed her hit song Ghost from her album Ella. It is a very cool song, and Ella sounded terrific as she sang it. The Roots played as she sang. She added her soaring and impressive vocal talents to an already memorable episode of the Tonight Show.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Hump Day was another fantastic episode, with Fallon’s very entertaining guests, actress Sigourney Weaver from the upcoming movie, Chappie, and Andy Cohen, the host of his own show, Watch What Happens Live. Then, musical artist, Ella Henderson, capped off the already great episode with a performance of her hit, Ghost.
