Two men living in New York City have been arrested for allegedly trying to join ISIS and plotting attacks here in the U.S. including an assassination bid on President Obama. Their third accomplice was arrested in Florida.
It has been reported that the men arrested in the U.S. Wednesday were on their way to Syria to join ISIS. It has been stated that they had also discussed an assassination bid on President Obama. This was mentioned in the unsealed report filed in the federal court in Brooklyn, New York.
The men were arrested on their way to Turkey at the JFK International Airport. They had offered to assassinate President Obama in case they failed to join ISIS. They planned to leave for Turkey Wednesday, February 25. The men had also talked about hijacking a commercial passenger flight to Turkey and diverting it to Syria where ISIS has declared an Islamic caliphate.
The men have been identified as Abdurasul Jaraboev, 24 years old; Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19 years old; and Abror Habibov, 30 years old. These men could face charges for trying to provide monetary and other logistical support to terrorists. Apart from discussing an assassination bid on President Obama, the men also discussed killing FBI officers in the U.S. They wanted to assassinate President Obama and then shoot themselves with the gun. The men planned to target Coney Island by bombing it.
All of these men are legal residents in the United States. Saidakhmetov is an immigrant from Kazakhstan and Jaraboev from Uzbekistan. Both are legal permanent U.S. residents. Habibov, is from Uzbekistan as well but has overstayed his visa expiry date.
