Supernatural fans seem to be in for a treat, as executive producer Jeremy Carver has teased a “dramatic twist” for Dean Winchester, played by Jensen Ackles. Fans will already know that he is struggling with the Mark of Cain, after going nuclear at the end of the mid-season finale. He even nearly killed his close friend Charlie after almost giving into the urges.
One thing that many Supernatural fans have been looking forward to is the return of Cain. Tim Omundson announced on his Twitter that he would be making a return to Supernatural, something that many fans expected. After all, his character did tell Dean that he would return at some point so that Dean could kill him. The question is whether Dean will now uphold his end of the deal. All he wants is to get rid of the Mark for good, and transferring it back to Cain may be the only option.
Carver announced that Cain’s return will have an effect on Dean. He will start to think about himself differently; view the way the Mark is affecting him differently. It may mean that he keeps the Mark and learns to control it. However, the writers and producers are being very quiet about the storyline to come for the eldest Winchester brother. Carver continued to tease that Cain’s episode is a wonderful one for a “dramatic” season-long arc.
The Supernatural producer has teased a dramatic twist for Dean Winchester when Cain returns, and it is not just him who will be affected. Sam Winchester, played by Jared Padalecki, and Castiel, played by Misha Collins, will have concerns over the Mark. They are already worried about the way it is affecting him, and are searching for all options to help him control the urges to kill.
The Mark of Cain storyline is clearly going to be the storyline for the rest of the season. The decision coming up in the episode with Cain is going to drive the brothers and their angel friend to the end. They want to deal with the Mark, and prevent Dean from going nuclear again. However, there are some issues with dealing with the Mark. The brothers will also have to deal with people they would not usually want to associate themselves with on the show. Carver has not shared many details about who these unsavory characters are, but Crowley and Metatron may be two of them.
There is going to be a change in Dean’s attitude. Every other time he has been faced with difficult decisions, he has tried to push his brother away. Supernatural fans will be happy to hear that the Mark of Cain is actually pulling the brothers together. Dean will let Sam in, and let him help with the burden of what the Mark is making him become. However, there will still be some secrets, as there are with any relationship. There are still things that Dean wants to keep from his little brother. Being the protector has never changed for the character. It looks to be an interesting half to the season of Supernatural, as executive producer Carver teased a “dramatic twist” for Dean Winchester.
