The Voice will make its big return to NBC on February 23, 2015, at 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET, and Christina Aguilera also will be back, after having had her baby. Gwen Stefani ably filled in for Aguilera during season 7 of The Voice, but now, Christina’s back, though Usher is still on a hiatus while he tours. Pharrell Williams, who filled in for Usher last season and won three Grammys on Sunday, February 8, will be returning for season 8. Carson Daly will continue on as the host.
According to the NBC Universal Media site on The Voice, the series will continue to have five stages in the season-long competition process. The first phase is the Blind Auditions one, in which competitors are judged solely on their vocal talents, rather than also by their appearances. The four coaches, Aguilera, Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, will push a button and turn their chairs around if he or she or they like how a particular competitor sings.
If more than one of the coaches hits his or her buttons and turns his or her chair around, they each get to make a pitch to the competitor. Then, the competitor gets to choose which of the coach’s teams of those who pushed their buttons that he or she wants to be on and work with. However, if no coach pushes his or her button, the competitor is eliminated from the competition.
The second phase of the competition is the Battle Rounds. Each coach’s team members who makes it through the Audition Rounds goes head-to-head against another team member, singing the exact same song in front of a studio audience. The coaches give their team members advice before they compete against each other, and they also listen to the critiques of the other three coaches to determine which team member is the winner of each Battle Round on The Voice. Besides the advice of the coaches, each team will have a celebrity adviser who will offer their tips and advice. According to Rickey.org, two of the celebrity mentors will be Meghan Trainor and Nick Jonas.
Whichever team member is declared the loser then can be stolen by one of the other coaches. Each coach has two steals available during the Battle Rounds on The Voice. If the losing contestant of a Battle Round is not stolen, he or she will be eliminated from the competition.
Then, at the end of the Battle Rounds, with each of the teams now whittled down somewhat, the third phase of The Voice begins with the Knockout Rounds. Similar to the Battle Rounds, team members will once again get paired and face off against each other, but the difference is that they will get to choose the songs that they sing, and each competitor sings individually while the other one sits and watches. During the Knockout Rounds, there will be one adviser for all of the teams and competitors.
Like with the Battle Rounds, in the Knockout Rounds, the loser of each round will be available to be stolen. However, each coach will have just one steal that he or she can use during the Knockout Rounds. The musical artists who are not the winners and are not stolen will then be sent home.
The fourth stage of the season on The Voice is the Live Playoff Rounds. During these rounds, the 20 remaining musical artists will perform live. Viewers across America will then get the chance to vote and save the two competitors they like the best from each team. Then, each coach will have one save that he or she can use to complete his or her team. These remaining team members then will move on to the last phase of the season of The Voice, the Live Performance Shows.
During the Live Performance Shows phase on The Voice, the top 12 musical artists will compete against each other. Viewers across America will be able to use voting apps to vote and save their favorite contestants. Then, the three musical artists who have received the lowest amount of votes will have a Sing Off, and after that, viewers will be able to save one of the three by tweeting #VoiceSave along with the name of the artist they want to save. One of the three will be “Instantly Saved,” and the other two will get sent home. At the end of the season, one of the contestants will be named “The Voice” and will be rewarded a lucrative recording contract.
With the start of season 8 of The Voice this coming February 23, 2015, Christina Aguilera will be returning as a judge on the show. Pharrell Williams will be returning from last season, as will series regular judges Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. Who will be named “The Voice,” of season 8? Tune in and find out!
