Marvel has released the latest trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie, titled Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is, of course, the sequel to the most successful action movie of all time, and expectations are very high. The basic plot summary for Avengers: Age of Ultron is that the Avengers, consisting of Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.; The Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo; Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth; Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson; Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner; and Captain America, given life by Chris Evans, assemble in an attempt to combat Ultron, played by James Spader, and to thwart his evil plan to wipe out the human race. This time around, the Avengers will be joined by a few newcomers: Vision, played by Paul Bettany, and Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elisabeth Olsen respectively.
The new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron opens with a voiceover from James Spader’s Ultron. During this voiceover, Ultron tells a little of his plan to take away the hope of the human race before he sends the species into extinction. The trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron also includes Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark telling Bruce Banner how he started the Ultron program, which created the robotic menace. Tony Stark created an advanced artificial intelligence that turned against him. The trailer also highlights some of the action that Avengers:Age of Ultron has to offer, particularly the robot army that Ultron commands. The first Avengers film was, of course, action-packed and the only logical expectation would be that Avengers: Age of Ultron would push the action even further.
It is interesting that Marvel is dropping the comic book origins of the character Ultron in Avengers:Age of Ultron. Originally, in the comic books, Ultron was created by the Ant-Man, Hank Pym. Hank Pym created Ultron by experimenting with artificial intelligence. Pym build a crude robot and made a copy of his own brain scans as a basis for Ultron’s programming. Avengers:Age of Ultron seems to have forgone this origin, electing instead to change Ultron’s original creator from Hank Pym to Tony Stark. Avengers: Age of Ultron does not even include Hank Pym as a character, even though there seems to be an Ant-Man movie in the works that will be released sometime in the next few years.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is the second Avengers movie that will be released. This is not including the individual Avenger movies that have already been released. It seems likely that Avengers: Age of Ultron will continue to push the overall story arc that Marvel has included throughout all of the movies: the Infinity Gauntlet, which will be the basis for the next Avenger team-up film, Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Age of Ultron definitely has some big shoes to fill after the insane success of the first film. The trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron really should have people even more excited, if that is even possible, for the next chapter in the Avengers series.
