‘Dancing With the Stars’: ‘My Jam Monday Night’ [Recap]

Dancing With the Stars

On Dancing With the Stars tonight, it was My Jam Monday Night, and besides the excellent dancing during the episode, the first celebrity of the season was eliminated. Tonight, the couples performed unlearned dances to some of their favorite jams. The competition is already heating up, as the winners will receive a covet golden Mirror Ball Trophy this season.

The first couple up on Dancing With the Stars was Chris Soules from The Bachelor and his dance partner, Witney Carson. They performed a Cha-cha-cha to Pitbull & Ne-Yo’s version of Time of Our Lives. The judges did not seem to be very enthusiastic about their performance, just giving them scores of three 5s and one 6, for a total of 21/40 points. That was a good enough score, somehow, to keep them safe for this episode.

The second couple to take the stage on Dancing With the Stars was Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani. The dance that they performed was a Jive dance, to the Jerry Lee Lewis classic hit, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On. They both did a great job, and the judges apparently liked their dancing better than the first couple, awarding them all 7s, for a total of 28/40 points in all.

The third couple to dance tonight on Dancing With the Stars was Shark Tank‘s Robert Herjavec and his pro dance partner, Kym Johnson. They danced a terrific Foxtrot to Michael BublĂ©’s song, You Make Me Feel So Young. They tied with Suzanne and Tony, as the judges awarded them with straight 7s, for a total of 28 out of 40 points. They were another couple who were safe at the end of the episode.

Next on Dancing With the Stars, Charlotte McKinney and her dance partner, Keo, performed a Cha-cha-cha to Katy Perry’s song, which also featured Snoop Dogg, California Gurls. They put on a solid and graceful performance, and the judges gave them higher scores than they did the first week. The couple earned scores of two 6s and two 7s, for a total of 26/40 points overall. Though lower than the top scores, so far, of 28s, the 26 was high enough to make them safe at the end of the show.

Then, the fifth couple on Dancing With the Stars was the duo of NFL player, Michael Sam, and Peta Murgatroyd, dancing a Foxtrot to the Spinners’ classic hit, Working My Way Back to You. They shone on the dance floor, and they tied with the highest scores of the night yet from the judges, getting awarded four 7s for a score of 28 points out of 40.

The judges were kind of skimpy awarding points tonight…that is, until the sixth couple on Dancing With the Stars hit the stage, Rumer Willis with her pro dance partner, Val. They performed a Cha-cha-cha and tied their score from the first week, of getting four 8s, for a total of 32 out of 40 points, putting them in the lead, at least for now. They danced to Rumour Has It by Adele and were declared safe at the conclusion of the show.

Then, Redfoo and Emma Slater performed a Jive dance to the Knack’s big hit, My Sharona. They did better than they did the first week, when they only got 22 points. They were awarded three 8s and one 7 by the judges, for a total of 31 points. The 22 put them in danger this week of being eliminated.

Couple number eight on Dancing With the Stars was Willow Shields and her pro dance partner, Mark Ballas. They danced an Argentine Tango to the song Somebody That I Used to Know, by Gotye featuring Kimbra. They tied with the highest scores so far of the evening, four 8s, for a total of 32/40 big points, which made them comfortably safe tonight.

The ninth couple on Dancing With the Stars was Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess. They performed a Samba to the Darius Rucker hit, Homegrown Honey. The three 7s and one 6 that the judges gave them, for a combined total of 27 out of 40 points, was enough to ensure that they were also safe.

After they danced, it was time for the tenth couple, Olympic artistic gymnast Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough to perform. They danced a spectacular Rumba to Ed Sheeran’s hit, Thinking Out Loud. They earned the highest scores yet tonight from the judges, two 8s and two 9s, for a combined total of 34/40 points.

Then, couple number 11 on Dancing With the Stars, Riker Lynch and Allison Holker, danced a Foxtrot to the Maroon 5 hit, Sugar. The were given scores of four 8s by the judges, making a total of 32/40 points. They were yet another couple who were safe at the end of the episode.

The final couple to dance on Dancing With the Stars this episode was singer Patti LaBelle along with her dance partner, Artem. They danced an amazing Salsa to the 50 Cent song, In da Club. The judges gave them scores of four 7s, for a total of 28 points, and they were also safe tonight.

The couple who was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars was Redfoo and his dance partner, Emma Slater. Though they both did much better this week than they danced on the premiere Monday, last week, of Dancing With the Stars, their combined total and possibly not as many votes from the viewers of America resulted in them being the first couple eliminated this season.
