Explosion at West Texas Oil Rig Kills Three


A large explosion in an oil and gas field in West Texas has killed three people and injured one person, a spokesman for owner of Parsley Energy Inc. stated today. The explosion happened around 50 miles south of Midland, Texas. No other information regarding the incident or those who were killed and injured has been released.

The Occupational Safety and Health and Administration (OSHA) was investigating the oil rig explosion that involved contractors from the Mason Well Service firm. The Office of Emergency Management in Upton County, Texas named the news as very sad and not much other information or details were available.

Parsley Energy is one of a multitude of companies that are drilling in the Permian Basin of Texas, one of the largest and highest-yielding shale oil fields in the U.S. The energy company has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the explosion. Though, Lisa Elliott from Parsley Energy said, “Our thoughts are with the families.”
