Jean-Claude Van Damme, martial arts expert and star of several action movies, is getting divorced from his wife, Gladys, for the second time. He got married to the former Ms. Olympia contestant and bodybuilder, his third and fifth wife, in 1987. In 1992, Jean-Claude Van Damme got divorced from her for the first time after the actor had an affair. In 1999, the couple remarried, and stayed together for nearly 15 years before announcing the news that they had separated on March 7 and are in the process of getting a divorce.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, 54, whose real name is Jean Claude Van Varenberg, has not commented on the circunstances surrounding the impending divorce. His wife, Gladys, whose real name is Gladys Portugues Van Varenberg, citing irreconcilable differences, filed the divorce paperwork at a court in Los Angeles, according to TMZ and other sources. She is seeking an undisclosed amount of spousal support. According to the paperwork, his home is in Hong Kong and her home is located in the Los Angeles area.
While Jean-Claude Van Damme and his wife, Gladys, were married for the first time, they had two children, who are now adults, their son, Kristopher Van Damme, 22, and daughter, Bianca Bree Van Damme, 24. The so-called “Muscles from Brussels,” Van Damme, had no children from his first two marriages, but he did have one from his fourth wife, Darcy LaPier. He admitted to the U.K. newspaper, The Guardian, that he had an affair with a co-star while LaPier was pregnant with their son.
Jean-Claude Van Damme was in Thailand at the time of the affair, which was reportedly with singer and actress Kylie Minogue, who played Cammy in the 1994 Street Fighter movie. He told The Guardian that his co-star was “so beautiful,” that it would have been “abnormal not to have had an affair.”
According to Jean-Claude Van Damme’s fourth wife, Darcy LaPier, in an interview with Fox News, she said that she “was shocked” that Van Damme would talk about the affair after “all these years later.” She also stated that she “didn’t know about” the affair that had happened while she was pregnant with their son, and she said that she felt “betrayed.”
By all outward appearances, it seemed as if Jean-Claude Van Damme’s second marriage with Gladys was working out well for both of them. At almost 15 years’ duration, Van Damme’s second marriage to Gladys was the longest time he has ever been married. She would often go with him to various celebrity events, like the Cannes International Film Festival in 2008 and the 2012 premiere in London of The Expendables 2.
Jean-Claude Van Damme displayed his acting and martial arts skills in several memorable movies, such as Bloodsport in 1988, Cyborg and Kickboxer in 1989, Lionheart in 1990, Universal Soldier in 1992, Timecop in 1994 and Replicant in 2001. He also famously was featured, apparently doing a gravity-defying split, between two trucks during a commercial for Volvo.
Jean-Claude Van Damme is getting divorced from his third and fifth wife, Gladys, for the second time, according to paperwork that Gladys has filed in a court in L.A. The martial arts action star was married to his first wife, Maria Rodriguez, for four years, from 1980 to 1984. His second wife, who he was married to from 1985 to 1986, was Cynthia Derderian. From 1994 to 1997, he was married to his fourth wife, model Darcy LaPier.
