The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was great this Tuesday, March 24, when Fallon welcomed his guests, mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey and actress Elizabeth Banks, who is one of the stars of the upcoming movie, Pitch Perfect 2. Ronda is one of the best female mixed martial artists of this era. The musical guest of the Tonight Show was the band, Little Big Town.
Host of the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon, was greeted with applause and a standing ovation as he walked out onto the stage and did his monologue. He joked about people and events for the news, such as the White House announcing that the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi will meet with President Obama. “What are you gonna do?” Fallon said that Obama said “Haiders gonna hate.”
“They held the fifth annual Science Fair at the White House over the weekend,” Jimmy Fallon said. Fallon showed clips of Obama talking to the students, then quickly walking away. The video was “doctored,” of course….
Senator Cruz used the phrase “Imagine” it is this or that, a lot, in the speech he gave announcing his candidacy for the president when the election is held in 2016. “Something tells me that Senator Cruz will just have to ‘imagine’ what the inside of the White House looks like in 2016.”
Jimmy Fallon said that this week marks the anniversary of the release of Pretty Woman. “It’s hard to imagine, but before the release of Pretty Woman, prostitutes weren’t all that glamorous,” Fallon said.
He continued, joking about a self-driving car and also saying that Radio Shack’s entire inventory has been put up for auction. When asked for a comment, a spokesman for Radio Shack said ‘What now?'”
Host Jimmy Fallon mentioned some upcoming guests, then said that tonight’s guests would be mixed martial artist, Ronda Rousey, Elizabeth Banks, who will be starring in Magic Mike XXL, and Little Big Town.
Then, Fallon introduced the comedy bit, “The Pros and Cons of March Madness.” Some examples follow. Pro: I’ts wild, it’s unpredictable, and nobody knows what will happen from day to day. Con: Or, as New Yorkers call it, ‘Spring.’ Pro: March Madness is almost down to the Sweet Sixteen. Con: Or, as Chris Christie calls it, ‘a pack of Peeps.'”
When the Tonight Show came back from a break, host Jimmy Fallon and the house band, The Roots, did a bit called “Freestylin’ With The Roots.’ Fallon talked with Tory, from the audience, and The Roots made up a song about her. She said she was from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, and if she had her own basketball team, she would call them the “Schwenksville Schwankers.” Fallon asked The Roots if they “could do a college fight song.” The Roots did so, and sang a song about Tory and her “Dream Team,” the Schwankers.
Then, Jimmy Fallon talked with another audience member, Chris. “What’s the one thing in your house you need to get rid of?” Fallon asked Chris.
“My mother,” Chris replied. Then, he said “Sweaters in mothballs.” Fallon asked “What would you never get rid of?” and Chris said “Gina,” his girlfriend, who was with him. Jimmy Fallon asked The Roots if they could sing about Chris in the style of a Snoop Dogg song. They did, and it was AMAZING!
Jimmy Fallon walked around, until he found two young ladies, Laura and Rachel, with University of Albany T-shirts on, his alma mater. Fallon asked them to name a flower, and they said “pansies.” He asked “What’s the craziest thing you ever did on Spring Break?” They told him “getting tattoos of candy corn on our feet.” The Roots sang the song about Laura and Rachel in the style of a Disney song.
After the Tonight Show came back from another break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest of the episode, Elizabeth Banks. She most recently starred in The Hunger Games movies. It was her first time on the Tonight Show.
“I have two little girls, and you have two boys,” Jimmy Fallon said.
“Maybe one day they could get married,” Elizabeth said. She and Fallon talked about their kids and the differences between how boys and girls behave. She said her two boys were sitting in their car as her husband was driving. They were naked, “eating Cheddar Bunnies.”
Fallon asked Banks about working with American Greeting cards. She said they have a new line of cards inspired by Jimmy Fallon’s “Thank You Notes,” comedy bit, though they are real cards that tell others “Thank you.” Fallon said “We’ll be right back with Ronda Rousey!”
Back from the commercial break, Fallon introduced UFC women’s bantamweight champ, Ronda Rousey. She is currently undefeated. Jimmy Fallon said “You look gorgeous!” and told her that she had a “great name for a fighter.”
She told him “Once I started taking judo lessons, it let a lot of my aggression out.” Her mom had been a judo champion, Ronda told Fallon.
“Where did you think your judo would take you?” Fallon asked her.
Ronda replied that she won a medal in the Olympics, before she got into mixed martial arts. She said that her mom had called the idea “the stupidest idea you’ve ever had.”
While in the ring, Ronda said that she “was completely emotionless. It’s just observations and decisions.”
“Fighting isn’t a man’s thing, it’s a human’s thing,” Ronda stated. “To say that it’s a man’s thing is anti-feminist.”
“They call you the ‘Arm Collector,'” Fallon said, “because you snap people’s arms.”
Ronda asked him “Give me your arm,” and she demonstrated on him what she does in a fight. His “safe word” was “Rumpelstiltskin,” and he said it pretty quickly, once she demonstrated what she does on his arm.
Host Jimmy Fallon introduced Little Big Town after another commercial break. They sang Girl Crush from their latest album, Pain Killer. It was a very good song, and the audience applauded enthusiastically as they finished performing it. Little Big Town is about to go on tour supporting the album, beginning on March 26, according to their official tour site, below.
The Tonight Show was terrific this Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Actress Elizabeth Banks talked with Fallon about some of the movies she has been in and will be appearing in, and they also talked about each other’s children. Then, mixed martial artist, Ronda Rousey, who is currently unbeaten, demonstrated how she breaks arms, using Fallon’s arm. Little Big Town, who will be going of tour very soon, performed Girl Crush from the album, Pain Killer, to close out a fantastic episode of the Tonight Show.
