Two suicide bombers have laid waste to two mosques after blowing themselves up in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, according to initial reports from local authorities. A local law enforcement official and a witness at the scene of the suicide bombing told a local reporter that dozens of worshipers and other people around the mosque were killed and wounded.
The Islamic worshipers were at the mosque attending noon prayers at the Badr and al-Hashoosh mosques in the middle of downtown Sanaa when the two suicide bombers struck, killing dozens. Currently, the two mosques are utilized as a sanctuary by the supporters of the Zaidi Shia Houthi rebel movement. This rebel group as controlled Sanaa for the last few months.
After the Houthis took control of the capital, Yemen has been in a constant state of unrest. The crisis has escalated in the last few months as more suicide bombings and other violence has swept throughout the country. Information regarding the number deaths as not been released. No extremist group has taken responsibility for the attack as of now.
