Taylor Swift Does Not Want to Be Associated With Porn

Swift

As the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is looking to expand the available options for domain purchasers, Taylor Swift is making a preemptive move to make sure that she is not associated with porn, as she does not want her name to be used to promote adult industry revenue. This summer is expected to see the release of such domain endings like .google, .apple, .pizza, and even .porn and .sex. As ICANN expands domain endings in their hopes to make it possible to allow people to purchase domains with virtually any word as the ending, they are taking it one step at a time. This move, however, requires Swift and other large companies like Microsoft to make large purchases in advance in order to keep their name from turning into the URL “TaylorSwift.sex.”

On Monday Swift bought a slew of URL’s that involve the ending for adult industries, though she is not thinking about using them for websites. Instead, Swift most likely plans on letting these domains remain uncultivated. She and many other companies are purchasing a range of domain names that will end with inappropriate suffixes so that their names can not be used in a bad way. Though many have probably used Swift’s name for porn before, especially as nude and pornographic pictures of the pop star are all over the web (though Taylor claims there are no naked photos of her anywhere, meaning all the photos are created falsely), it is safe to assume that if the domain of Swift’s name and .sex or .porn were available, there is a large possibility that it may be used for adult industry websites.

Because of this possibility, ICANN is giving businesses and celebrities the opportunity to buy out any domains, before they are released. Many businesses and celebrities have already taken action to make sure that inappropriate websites that could be used with their name are taken out of the running. Even top schools, such as Harvard University, are joining Swift in making domain name purchases.

SwiftOther domain names that are scheduled to be released this summer are not as inappropriate., as .pets, .chevy, .lamborghini, and other words with high associated in the business world are also set to be released. The Associated Press stated, according to sources, that even though these suffixes are being released to the public, people can now claim trademark violation, or argue that a suffix is too offensive. If this information is true, Swift may not have anything to worry about.

The singer did take action though, in order to make sure that her name is not used to create domain names that are offensive to her, as she purchased such domains with .porn and .adult on Monday. As Swift is constantly making smart business moves to make sure her and her songs are not taken advantage of, this move was only one to be expected by her.

The only reports of her purchases are for her name and adult industry suffixes, but Microsoft not only purchased the name Microsoft with inappropriate suffixes, they also purchased things like ‘office.porn’ and ‘office.adult’. With trademarks on lyrics from her songs, perhaps Swift should consider also purchasing domains that involve her other trademarks. According to sources the list of purchased domain names can be found at http://icmregistry.com/domaincheck.
