Dancing With the Stars celebrated its 10th anniversary tonight in grand fashion on Tuesday night on ABC, recapping some of the best dance performances ever, the most memorable moments, and bringing back over 50 stars and past judges and hosts of this hit ABC series. Though Dancing With the Stars is celebrating its 10th anniversary, there have been two seasons each year for that entire length of time, making this the 20th season the series has been on the air.
Dancing With the Stars kicked off the special landmark occasion with the show’s largest opening number yet, with more than 50 stars taking the stage to dance. Included in that number, besides past judges and hosts, were seven returning pro dancers and 15 celebs who are alums of past seasons.
The choreographed dance was a terrific way to open the Dancing With the Stars 10th Anniversary Show special episode. Some of the celebs and previous winners on the stage included the present-day judges, Bruno Tonioli, the beautiful Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman. Past Dancing With the Stars Season 19 celeb Mirror Ball Trophy winner, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star, Alfonso Robiero, was also on the stage, as well as other celebs and sports stars.
After reminiscing about the other past winners of the Mirror Ball Trophy, like the first one, Kelly Monaco, the Season Three winner, Cowboys great running back Emmitt Smith, and the Season 8 winner, Olympic Gold Medal winning gymnast, Shawn Johnson, it was time on Dancing With the Stars for the second dance of the show.
First season winner and General Hospital star, Kelly Monaco, danced with Val, and Kelly showed the viewers of America that she still is a great dancer. She stripped down to wearing nothing but a bikini as they danced, and Val ended up wearing only a Speedo.
That sizzling hot and sexy dance was followed up by the third one of the Dancing With the Stars 10th Anniversary Show, with seven dancers and celebs. Glee‘s Amber Riley was one of the dancers, along with Sasha Farber, Chelsea Kane, Olympians Amy Purdy and Kristi Yamaguchi, and TV Extra host, Maria Menounos. An eighth dancer, the four-month-pregnant Katherine Jenkins, also danced with them, the first time in the show’s history that somebody who was with child danced on the Dancing With the Stars stage. The song that they all danced to was the big Mark Ronson hit (featuring Bruno Mars), Uptown Funk.
Next on Dancing With the Stars, last season’s champ, Alfonso Ribiero, and his former dance partner then, Witney Carson, took the stage and danced to a song by Chris Brown. After their great dance, a clip was shown of their rehearsals. Witney is seen in the clip, accidentally kicking Alfonso in the groin. To try to make him feel better, she then rubbed his back and asked him if he would like her to get him a snack.
Another spectacular performance followed, on Dancing With the Stars, when former champions Meryl Davis and her partner, Maks, danced. They danced to the song Heroes. Then, the audience and viewers across America got to see a humorous clip from Maks’ audition from 2005.
The Dancing With the Stars All-Star champ, from Season 15, Melissa Rycroft, performed with her dance partner, Tony Dovolini. They graced the stage and put on an awesome show with their dance. After their performance, Rycroft stated that she will be the host of this summer’s Dancing With the Stars tour.
Then, the present judges recalled what their favorite dance performances of the past seasons were, and they were some of the most memorable ones ever. For instance, Carrie Ann’s favorite performance was one that Amy Purdy danced with Derek Hough, while Bruno thought that the best one was a tango that was danced by Mel B. and Maks.
After that on Dancing With the Stars, NFL greats took the stage and gave a special performance, dancing a football-inspired paso doble. The NFL stars who danced were Jerry Rice, Kurt Warner, Hines Ward, Donald Driver, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Jacoby Jones. They wore gold jackets with their NFL numbers on them and they showcased some pretty impressive dance moves.
During the Dancing With the Stars 10th Anniversary Show on Tuesday, there were some great dance performances shown and the 20 seasons of the hit ABC series were looked back on fondly by the judges. Also, Billy Ray Cyrus sang a few lines of his big hit, Achy Breaky Heart, and this past season’s celeb soul singer, Patti LaBelle, closed out the special singing one of her biggest hits, Lady Marmalade. Joining her in singing the song was rapper Nicki Minaj and Glee‘s Amber Riley, and the special ended with all of the celebs, hosts and judges back on the dance floor performing a last dance of the highly entertaining show.
