Model Gisele Bündchen has announced that she intends to quit modeling, after 20 years of walking the runway. The 34-year-old made her decision public via an Instagram throwback photo posted early this morning, that shows her participating in a fashion show when she was just 14 years old.

The caption for the social media upload in question detailed the now former model’s feelings regarding the past two decades she has spent in the business, and she let it be known that she is extremely thankful for having been given the opportunity to experience this as a career and for the memories that she was able to gather as a result. She made sure to let her fans and followers know that the decision to quit modeling was made by her and her alone, in order to squash any potential rumors that she was in some way asked to leave the business or that there had been any kind of discrepancies between her and those with whom she worked.

Although Bündchen plans to leave the runway behind after having spent the past 20 years modeling, she says that it is her intention to remain in the business overall through different methods of involvement, although it is not yet known exactly what this other involvement will be.

Her final show took place today in her native country of Brazil, as part of São Paulo Fashion Week. Bündchen modeled for Colcci, a Brazilian company which specializes in manufacturing and selling high-end clothing (as well as accessories) for both men and women. Prior to the event, the wife of Tom Brady took to Instagram in order to share a backstage snapshot of her getting prepared to take her place on the runaway, a picture in which she is seen holding a large piece of fruit that is being used for consumption of a cocktail. It was captioned “Almost ready!” and was accompanied by a translation of this statement in her native language.

Although best known for modeling, Bündchen has also engaged in other ventures in the public eye, including several acting stints for which she gained a substantial amount of recognition. These accomplishments include a supporting role in 2004’s Taxi, an endeavor which resulted in her receiving a nomination for Choice Movie Breakout Performance and Choice Movie Bad Guy. She has also gained praise and admiration over the years for her philanthropical commitments, one of the most significant of which is her role as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme.

Bündchen began her relationship with Brady, a New England Patriots quarterback, near the end of 2006. They married just over two years later, in a small religious ceremony at Santa Monica’s St. Monica Catholic Church. The pair is currently raising two children; a daughter, Vivian Lake Bundchen Brady (born in 2012) and a son, Benjamin Rein Bundchen Brady (born in 2009).

Much to the dismay and disappointment of her millions of fans and dedicated admirers, model Gisele Bündchen has made the decision to permanently exit the runway after 20 years. Her reasons for this have not been exclusively revealed as of yet; however, the mother of two has made it clear that this is a personal decision and that she cannot thank her supporters enough for the past two decades of memories and experience that being on this career path has brought her.
