The decision came after 20 years of being a fashion model, and has since resulted in the disappointment and sorrow of millions due to the highly dedicated following the 34-year-old has built up over the years. This sadness, however, is not just due to the fashion world losing a talented model; over the years, the mother of two has proven that she is far more than a pretty face. In fact, there are several reasons why Bündchen’s influence and inspiration in the industry have made it so that the modeling world will never be the same without her.

One of the biggest issues that individuals have with the superstar status awarded to supermodels and the like is the idea that it promotes being recognized and admired for doing nothing other than looking good and wearing high-end clothing. Given that there is increased focus on promoting more essential traits like intelligence and inner beauty, this scrutiny is more than understandable. However, when looking at the Brazil native’s past and personal history, it is clear that the level of recognition she has come to achieve over the past two decades is nothing less than 100 percent deserved.

Bündchen has gone out of her way to prove that she cares about much more than wearing the highest trends and appearing in the most popular magazines, and that she wants to make the world better as a whole. The now ex-model’s notoriety regarding her philanthropy is at the point that it is almost equal to the fame she has earned from walking the runaway, and it is these charitable acts and endeavors which greatly add to the reality that the modeling world will never be the same following her departure.

In terms of taking charge to make the world a better place and fully involve herself in current events and the global happenings overall, Bündchen has taken the steps to become associated with one of the top Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) in the world, the United Nations. She currently acts as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Environment Programme. This agency assists various countries in environmental affairs, aiding to help them conduct policy and behavior that is environmentally sound and is beneficial for the world as a whole.

As well as this, Bündchen has worked tirelessly to help the homeless population of her native country. She once donated $150,000 to Brazil’s Zero Hunger program, the end goal of which is to completely eradicate hunger and extreme poverty from the country as a whole.

At one point, she even designed a necklace for Harper’s Bazaar to help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an accessory that the magazine advertised for a limited time. Bündchen has also pulled out all the stops in order to assist those dealing with the traumatic aftermath of a natural disaster; these tragedies include that of Hurricane Katrina, and the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, to name a few. For the latter, she donated a full million dollars to the Japanese Red Cross Society earthquake fund that was created in the wake of the event.
