Jared Leto Is the Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’

Joker

Jared Leto will be the new Joker in the upcoming Warner Brothers’ movie, Suicide Squad, due to hit theaters on August 5th, 2016, and today, how he looks in the role was revealed by director, David Ayer, via his Instagram account. Leto’s Joker will have silver-colored teeth, the traditional green hair, his skin will be pale white, and he will be tatted up. He looks pretty psychotic in the shirtless photo that Warner Brothers released, befitting the character he will be playing.

The Joker, aka the Clown Prince of Crime, will be one of the main villains in the cast of the movie, but there will be others played by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, like Will Smith playing Deadshot. Actress Margot Robbie will be playing another Batman villain, the lovely but deadly Harley Quinn. Scott Eastwood, son of Clint Eastwood, will also be featured in the movie, in a role that has yet to be announced. It is rumored that Jesse Eisenberg will be a member of the cast, as Lex Luthor.

Plenty of questions remain about the entire movie, but as far as the Joker goes, many fans are wondering exactly how Jared Leto will portray him, and if he will try to sound like Heath Ledger’s take on the villain, or make the role totally his own interpretation of the character. Also, will Harley Quinn be working for the Joker, as she used to in the comic books; or, will she already be split from him and be working on her own, though still a member of the Suicide Squad?

The plot of Suicide Squad will involve the government recruiting supervillains to work for them. Viola Davis, in the role of Amanda Waller, will be the recruiter. They will be sort of like the A-Team in the TV series, taking on missions that no one else wants a part of dealing with.

There has not been word yet if Batman and the actor, Ben Affleck, will be included in the Suicide Squad. Speculation is that he might be, but if so, there is a concern that the animosity between the Joker and Batman could end up taking over the plot of the flick. That would not necessarily be a bad thing, but the other stars playing roles will likely want their parts to be heavily featured, as well.

Warner Brothers is banking on Jared Leto doing well in his portrayal of the Joker, because even if he does not meet up with Batman in Suicide Squad, he probably will face him in an upcoming Batman movie. Leto has done brilliant acting jobs in all of the other movies he has starred in, though, so there is no reason to think that he cannot pull off the intelligent but crazy role of the Joker.

Besides Heath Ledger, there have been some great actors who have played the Joker in the past, and they have all brought something a bit different to the table. Jack Nicholson’s version was diabolical and twisted, somewhat like Ledger’s even more psychotic version; Mark Hamill also put his own clever spin on the role; and Cesar Romero portrayed a somewhat funnier, lighter version of the Joker in the Batman television series.

Other than Jared Leto as the Joker, perhaps the other character who holds a fascination the most with fans (not counting Lex Luthor) would be Harley Quinn. She is a villain with a heart, of sorts, and she is admired almost equally by male and female comic book fans. She is sexy, and smart, and can rock a harlequin costume with ease.

With director David Ayers’ reveal of what Jared Leto’s version of the Joker will look like at his Instagram account, anticipation will likely build for the upcoming movie, Suicide Squad, set for a release date of August 5th, 2016. Ayer is also the writer of the screenplay, and Zack Snyder is the executive producer. The question is open if this flick will become another blockbuster hit for Warner Brothers, but it has a strong cast of actors, and the talents of David Ayer and Zack Snyder behind it, so it could well prove to be box office gold.
