The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon had a terrific episode this last Tuesday of April, as Fallon’s first guest that he interviewed was actor Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the new upcoming movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Renner sang later in the episode, in a bit called Hawkeye Sings. Fallon’s second guest on the Tonight Show was actress Edie Falco, from the TV series, Nurse Jackie. She, Renner, and Fallon did a segment on the show in which she threw out the “First Pitch.” The musical guest was the lovely Tori Kelly.
The monologue was the first order of business, and after host Jimmy Fallon welcomed the audience, he began his monologue. First, he joked about the current rioting in Baltimore. He showed a video about Obama’s Presidential china and Joe Biden’s “china,” plastic cups and plates with Batman characters on them.
Jimmy Fallon said that former President Jimmy Carter could not run for president today because he did not have enough money. Then, Fallon added: “And, he was one of our worst presidents.”
Jimmy Fallon then mentioned that Abercrombie & Fitch has now changed their policy and will not have models without shirts on in front of the store. Fallon “interviewed” an employee who was shirtless. He said that he was shirtless “because I spilled mustard on my shirt. I do that a lot.”
Then, Fallon joked about Apple introducing the Apple Watch today. He said “at Whole Foods, you can strap on the real thing.”
After his monologue, Jimmy Fallon announced his upcoming guests. Then, he said that tonight’s guests would be Hawkeye from Avengers: Age of Ultron Jeremy Renner. “Who knows? Maybe Hawkeye will stop by here tonight,” he added. He said that Edie Falco from Nurse Jackie would also be on.
Tonight, Fallon took a look at the Pros & Cons About Buying Apple Watches. Three of the Pros & Cons, somewhat paraphrased, follow:
“Pro: Spending $17,000 on one of the limited edition models. Con: Explaining to your children why their college plans are on hold for a little while. Pro: It sends you a reminder every hour to stand up. Con: Spending all of that money so you wouldn’t have to stand up. Pro: There’s a ‘Sport’ version for athletes. Con: There’s a ‘Giant’ version for Flavor Flav.”
After a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced Hawkeye. He sang a song about his superpowers to the tune of the Ed Sheeran song, Thinking Out Loud. He played the piano as he sang. It was a pretty funny song, but Renner demonstrated that he has a good singing voice, as well. He sang that one of his powers was “opening up a pickle jar.” It was an AMAZING performance!
More commercials followed, then Fallon introduced Jeremy Renner and interviewed him. Jimmy Fallon thanked Renner for “opening up” and said that Renner was at the studio for hours last night working on the song. Renner admitted that he had been nervous, and said “I’m sweaty right now from singing that song.”
Jimmy Fallon talked about singing Karaoke at a bar in Japan. He said that they liked him so much, they gave him a bottle of whiskey and said “Please stay.” Then, Jimmy Fallon showed a photo of Renner when he was a young boy, with a bowl haircut, and also a prom photo of Renner. The actor said that he had been in a rock band called “The Hype.”
Renner said “The best thing about that band was that it dis-banded. Nobody started off playing an instrument.”
Jimmy Fallon asked him about how the cast got along together. Renner said he got along well with them, especially with Robert Downey Jr. Renner said that Robert Downey Jr.’s kids liked him a lot. Fallon introduced a clip from the flick, featuring Renner as Hawkeye. With Avengers: Age of Ultron breaking records already everywhere internationally that it has opened, it is expected the movie will do the same thing in the United States when it opens on May 2.
After yet another commercial break, when the Tonight Show came back, Jimmy Fallon introduced the Emmy Award-winning actress, Edie Falco, from Nurse Jackie. It is currently in its seventh and final season. Fallon asked her if she was “having time off” now that the show has finished filming.
Edie Falco said that she was, and she was enjoying spending time with her children. However, she admitted that she also screamed at them quite a bit. “The house is upside down. They’re little hoarders,” she said.
Jimmy Fallon asked her about a story she was relating, about being in a hot tub in Florida at Disney World. People recognized that she was an actress, but they thought that she was “Felicity Huffman.”
Fallon asked her if she was “a little sad” about it being the final season of Nurse Jackie. She said that she was, “a little sad, yes.”
Jimmy Fallon then mentioned that Edie Falco had thrown out the first pitch at a Mets game. She did okay, at least making it to home plate.
In a very brief segment called “First Pitch,” Edie Falco then pitched during the show, but just one time. Fallon was the umpire, and he yelled “Strike!” Renner was supposed to be the catcher. The Tonight Show headed to another commercial break after that.
When the Tonight Show returned after still more commercials, Jimmy Fallon introduced the musical guest of the night, Tori Kelly, singing Nobody Love from her debut album, Unbreakable Smile. Kelly sounded fantastic, and played her guitar as she sang this catchy pop song, which came at the end of the Tonight Show.
On the Tonight Show this Tuesday, Fallon’s first guest, Jeremy Renner, who stars as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron, talked about the movie and he also sang a funny and cool song about his superpowers to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s song, Thinking Out Loud.
