On April 5, 2015, Lifetime network is premiering The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, starring Christina Ricci in the title role. The program is a follow up to the 2014 movie, Lizzie Borden Took An Ax, which detailed the events leading up to the murder of the Borden parents, the murder itself and the trial. Chronicles is a limited series on the network, with eight installments planned, which will delve into life after the murder of Borden’s parents and the subsequent trial. The series is being described as a fictionalized representation of the actual people and events surrounding the family.
The new series will once again have Ricci as the title character, with her sister, Emma, being portrayed once more by Clea DuVall. There are some new additions to the cast, such as Cole Hauser, taking on the role of the Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo. Chronicles is set to pick up approximately four months after the murder acquittal, and will have characters such as the half-brother, William, a former business associate of the father’s, William Almy and an aspiring actress and performer who becomes friends with Lizzie, Nancy O’Keefe.
Although Borden may be hoping for life to settle down after her trial, some things are just too hard to get past. While she tries to move on with life with her older sister, she must also contend with her new-found infamy, some scandalous love affairs and a number of very mysterious deaths. All of this while being investigated by Siringo, regarding not only the past murders of her parents, but also the more recent deaths of the people in her life.
The first episode of The Lizzie Borden Chronicles set to air on Lifetime is titled, Acts of Borden. Four months after her acquittal, Lizzie is trying to restart her life in Fall River, Massachusetts, with her older sister Emma. In order to restart her life, she must ignore the scorn and condemnation of her neighbors. On top of all of this, she must also deal with the fact that the renowned Pinkerton detective, Siringo, has shown up in town to determine what really happened with the murder of her parents.
While trying to move on with her life, an old business partner of Lizzie’s father, Almy, is demanding that the sister’s pay back a substantial debt. If the sisters’ do pay the debt they will end up bankrupt. Then Lizzie and Emma’s half-brother William shows up, making demands and attempting to blackmail the girls with a dark secret from the past. Lizzie might want a peaceful life, but sometimes people have to reevaluate things, when everything around them seems to be falling apart.
Murder, mystery and drama abound as Lizzie attempts to move on with her life, after the murder of her parents. Chronicles is set to deliver a season filled with more death and intrigue, as it follows in the footsteps of a woman, who for all intents and purposes, is alleged to have gotten away with murder. The Lizzie Borden Chronicles kicks off on Lifetime, April 5, after the premier of If There Be Thorns.
