Steroline—the Stefan/Caroline relationship—recently won E! TV’s Top Couple of 2015, and The Vampire Diaries star Candice Accola was able to talk all about the build-up for that relationship. After thanking fans for voting for the couple, she went on to say how she and Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, knew that eventually the two were going to be together. However, knowing that and seeing some fans love the idea did not make the build-up easy.
One thing that Accola pointed out is that there are plenty of The Vampire Diaries fans still holding out for Stefan and Elena to get back together. That was the first major relationship for the show, and the one that started off the love triangle. However, season five made it pretty clear that Elena’s interests in Damon were stronger than those in Stefan. It put Stefan back on the market.
At the same time, there are plenty of fans looking for Klaus to come back and get Caroline to go to New Orleans with him. There was something about the way that Caroline could tame Klaus and get him to do the right thing on The Vampire Diaries and they now want to see it on The Originals. It made moving into the idea of Steroline nerve-wracking, in case fans did not like it that much. Being voted the TV’s Top Couple of 2015 has certainly put some of those worries to rest.
As The Vampire Diaries actress Accola talked about Steroline, she mentioned the first moment that it became clear a relationship could happen. For many fans, it has only been the last year or so, but for Accola it was way back in season two when Stefan was teaching Accola how to be a vampire. There was a yin and yang element between them as Caroline’s bubbly personality mixed with Stefan’s darker one; along with how Caroline seems to be the perfect vampire and Stefan is a ripper when he has his humanity off.
She then went on to say how she appreciated the slow burn, something that some fans were also enjoying. It led to the question of will-they-won’t-they, which is something that many Dawson Creek fans remember. The slow burn is something more realistic, which is why she appreciated it so much.
Throughout season five, there were many fans screaming for Steroline to happen. For some fans, the point with the travellers when Caroline stayed with Stefan overnight in the van led to the idea that this ship could really happen. Caroline Dries, executive producer for the show, made it clear that it was not going to happen anytime soon, and it was soon clear as to why. Season six say Stefan moving away and ignoring everyone, while Caroline kept searching for a way to bring Damon and Bonnie back.
Steroline has only really just happened. While they both confessed their feelings for each other, they only just got together and it was not in the most ideal of ways. Humanity-free vampires had a rushed, emotionless hook-up, something that fans will want to see change as they both turn their humanities back on. There is hope for Steroline, and Accola certainly made it sound like that when she spoke about The Vampire Diaries ship.
