Apocalypse, Next X-Men Film Will Soon Hit Theaters

The next film in the X-Men franchise is titled Apocalypse. The film is expected to hit theaters on May 27, 2016. The previous film Days of Future Past was a major blockbuster and 20th century Fox immediately began work on Apocalypse. The executives supposedly had plans in the works even before Days of Future Past was released for this new film according to Cinemablend. The studio almost instantly began long-term negotiations with actors, directors and screenwriters to map out the complex story lines and character development.

The new film will make a ten year time jump after the events at the end of Days of Future Past sources say and the X-Men will be faced with a powerful new enemy. Time has been altered and with it comes the unleashing of a unique and powerful adversary. The next step in the hugely popular story will follow Charles, Erik/Magneto, Raven/Mystigue, Wolverine, and Hank/Beast as they are joined by Jean Grey, a young Cyclops, Storm, and many others as they are forced to fight their toughest obstacle yet. The new opponent is a powerful force that has the ability to bring about an apocalypse unlike any that has ever been seen before. Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult will all be reprising their roles in Apocalypse as stated by On The Flix.

Director, Bryan Singer, will also return to direct the film. It was previously stated that he may not be able to take part in the film due to legal difficulties, but recent updates have stated that he will indeed return. Simon Kinberg will also be returning to write the movie. The film is based on a story from Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. Days of Future Past made its successful debut over Memorial Day Weekend in 2014 and executives are hopeful that Apocalypse will have the same success in that it will also come out during the same weekend in 2016. The previous film had to square off against the film Maleficent last year and unfortunately Apocalypse will have to be up against another potentially popular film Alice in Wonderland 2. Cinemablend says that 20th Century Fox has faith in the film and its potential success and is up to the challenge even considering the fact that it will go up against another film with huge potential.

Bryan Singer, who helped launch the franchise back in 2000, is excited to be back in action after a long absence from the films. He did return for X-Men Days of Future Past and will be heavily involved in the creation of the Apocalypse film. Singer felt that by putting together the original X-Men with the younger X-Men First Class team, he would have endless possibilities story wise and with a larger cast. Singer had feared that his legal troubles would make his future with the X-Men franchise doubtful, but luckily he is still on board with the support of the rest of the creative team involved in the film. Singer is said to be hard at work on the pre-production aspect of the Apocalypse film.

Recently there has been many questions as to what exactly that plot of the new film will be. After having Magneto as their opponent for years and years and facing off with Bolivar Trask and his evil Sentinels, the X-Men will stand against their newest enemy called Apocalypse. Viewers were treated to a glimpse of the new enemy during the end credits of Days of Future Past. This clip showed Apocalypse using his powers to control the Great Pyramid in ancient Egypt. The segment was meant to show how old and powerful this new villain actually is and how he is a force to be reckoned with.

The given name of Apocalypse is En Sabah Nur which translates to The First One. The name suggests that Apocalypse might be the first mutant in existence. Apocalypse has multiple powers including flight, invulnerability, superhuman strength, teleportation, telekinesis. The word invincible is very often used to describe him Cinemablend continues. His days in ancient Egypt were met with enslavement and difficult battles for power. Over the years Apocalypse created four horsemen named Pestilence, Famine, War and Death. These characters were featured briefly in the clip as well. It is unclear how deep into his history the film will go, but one thing that is certain is the huge amount of backstory from the comics that the studio has to work with. Apocalypse also appears to be a worthy opponent for the X-Men and an immensely powerful one at that, possibly the strongest one that they have ever faced.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner will appear as a younger version of Jean Grey in Apocalypse and Lana Candor will star as Jubilee. Singer is optimistic that the combination of old favorites and new ones will help to create another blockbuster as it did with Days of Future Past. The film that will hit theaters soon, May of 2016 to be exact, will take place in the 1980’s and take the X-Men in new directions that will lead to additional films and possibilities the studio hopes.
