Though not everyone is thrilled with the features of the new Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, it is clear with each new release, and upcoming ones, that the game continues to take gamers to new areas. As the theme is designed to take gamers into different locations, each time as an assassin whose goal use to be to quietly sneak and kill (as in newer version’s gamers can run into the crowd and take out many), the new game explores China. With two other games to be released in the Assassin’s Creed trilogy of Chronicles, Ubisoft states that the other two games will be Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India and Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia. Per the website, each one features a different assassin for the gamer to use; three assassins of one creed. While many claim that this newer set of games, Chronicles, has stripped away everything that was once originally held dear in the game, others claim that the new features in the game allow for a pretty good gaming experience. Though, if gamers do not like this version of the creed, Assassin’s Creed Victory will supposedly discover the Victorian Era of England, though which specific features of the game will be included and which will not have not yet been released.
Each Assassin’s Creed works to be bigger and better than the last one. Though gamers do not agree that each new game is necessarily better than the last, Ubisoft has created newer version’s with more gadgets for the assassin, bigger cities and more areas to explore, different characters, etc. Overall, according to the Assassin’s Creed Wiki the game series has eight main games, seventeen spin-off games, and even several short films and media projects. Each Assassin’s Creed game follows a story line and takes gamers to different areas, continuing to bring in new revenue.
Of course, as long as the game brings in revenue, Ubisoft has no reason to change it or end the series. However, some believe that the game, whose effort to use the same theme over and over again, changing the features of the game, should end. Edward Smith of International Business Times stated that the last game was not very good, and each game seems to only leave gamers more disappointed than the last. He said that the sales figures are not slipping but the game should just be done. Though he states that many series games have lived out their cycle, and that he did not want to single out Assassin’s Creed, but that the game just was not very creative anymore and that it felt “more like yearly updates to [the] iPhone.” He said that relaunching games of the same kind over and over is a tested method for bringing in revenue, but that it was not the only way to do so.
But even still, the makers of Assassin’s Creed continue announcing new versions expected to come out, other than the recent trilogy of Chronicles that is currently in the works. In fact, Ubisoft expects to release the Assassin’s Creed Victory game for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC later in the year (though the release date has not specifically been announced). Their theme will be set during the Victorian Era of England and will be the ninth main game of the series. Their announcement shows their want to continue the series on, even farther. Writer Darby McDevitt even made statements of how long he expects the theme to be around, as he stated that writers of the Assassin’s Creed gaming series have created 500 to 700 years worth of history in order to tease it out for the next 10 to 20 years, or however long they will be around.
Assassin’s Creed will also apparently continue in the video world, as the upcoming main movie is said to start filming in September. The plot has not yet been discussed, as details of the story line are still at work, but most likely the movie will resemble the story line of the game, without the requirement for someone to be controlling the assassin’s. As the recent Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China came out, gamers continue to explore the new areas that the game take them to, and many are deciding that they just do not like this version as much as the previous ones. However, others find it a good game to play, and no matter what the opinion of the players is on the games ever-changing features, it continues to make money.
