Atlanta Woman Fatally Shot in Patrol Car

An Atlanta woman was fatally shot in the back of a police cruiser. The incident happened just after five p.m Thursday in front of the police precinct on Pryor Street near Underground Atlanta. The busy street in Atlanta was closed, and a squad car showed signs of the bullet holes from the gun fire.

The Fulton County medical examiner’s office identified the woman as 25-year-old Alexis Christian. Sources said that two officers took her into custody after they saw her sitting in a stolen car at a parking deck. They found drugs on her and there was a warrant out for her arrest.

It is unclear how the woman was able to posses a gun in the back of a patrol car, but she then fired on the two police officers. The police officers returned fire. Christian was critically wounded, and died later at Grady Memorial Hospital. None of the officers involved in the altercation were harmed.

The Atlanta woman who was fatally shot was wearing handcuffs according to investigators. They believe she might have freed one of her hands to use the gun.  When asked if she was searched, officers said they were investigating. Both officers, one of whom was in the final stages of training and had just recently been sworn in, have been put on administrative leave.
