Cat Deeley to Host Critics’ Choice Television Awards

DeeleyThe Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), which is an offset of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, made the announcement on May 13, that Cat Deeley will be hosting this year’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards on May 31. Deeley is best known for her longtime role as the host of So You Think You Can Dance on FOX. She was also the host of the first ever Critics’ Choice Television Awards back in 2011.

This announcement of who would be the host of the program comes just seven days after the complete list of nominations were revealed. Those nominations included 27 for HBO, as well as 16 for the FX network. The two top nominated shows, Olive Kitteridge and Justified, come from the top networks respectively. Both shows received five nominations each, including Best Limited Series for Olive Kitteridge and Best Drama Series for Justified. There were also five shows that received a total of four nominations each, plus a number of shows which received three nominations. Deeley herself, received a nomination this year in the category of Best Reality Series Host for So You Think You Can Dance.

In the press release, Deeley said that she was excited to be coming back to host the awards show, especially after having hosted the very first show five years ago. She also said that it had been an incredible year of television programming, and that she was thrilled to be taking part in a celebration in honor of not only the numerous talented performers, but also the shows themselves.

Since 2006, Deeley has proven her hosting abilities with multiple programs, such as So You Think You Can Dance, Critics’ Choice Television Awards and The Choice, a celebrity dating game on the FOX network. She has had guest appearances on shows such as The Simpsons, The Exes, Life’s Too Short and Shake it Up. Besides her current role on So You Think You Can Dance, Deeley can be seen as the role of the villain, Camomile White, on the Hulu show Deadbeat, which is in its second season. She is also a Critics’ Choice Television Awards winner and a four time Emmy nominee.

The Critics’s Choice Television Awards is an event that honors the programs and performers who entertain small screen viewers. Programs that aired between June 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015 are eligible for nominations. The only exception is the Most Exciting New Series which is still accepting submissions. The programs in this category are premiering after May 1, 2015 and include shows that will premiere in either the summer, fall or winter.

The winners for the Most Exciting New Series will be announced prior to the actual awards show, on May 26. Viewers can catch Deeley hosting the Critics’ Choice Television Awards on May 31, at 8 PM EST. The awards show is set to air live on the A&E network, which has been granted the exclusive rights to air the program in both 2015 and 2016.
