On the Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon welcomed and interviewed a couple of terrific guests, David Duchovny, who stars in the upcoming T.V. series Aquarius; and actor and comedian, Jeff Foxworthy. Jimmy Fallon and Foxworthy played a game of So You Think You’re Smarter Than a Fifth Grader later in the show. The musical guest of the evening was the incomparable singer, Pitbull.
Jimmy Fallon started off this Tuesday night episode, after he was greeted by a standing ovation from the studio audience, by doing his monologue. Fallon joked about topics from the news, like David Letterman retiring. He said his dad called up and asked “So, tonight’s your last show?” Fallon mentioned that tonight’s guests would be David Duchovny, Jeff Foxworthy and Pitbull.
Fallon then showed some questions that Senator Bernie Sanders was supposedly asked on Reddit, lal of them actually about Hillary Clinton. He joked about Chrysler, and also about Disneyland putting up signs that remind guests not to take Selfie Sticks on rides. Then, he joked aobut the Norwegian Cruise Line ship that ran aground. He said what their statement was, in Norwegian (supposedly), and then translated it, saying in English, the statement was “We’re still better than that diarrhea prison, Carnival Cruise Lines.”
Jimmy Fallon ended his monologue with a joke about the upcoming Solitaire Championship online. He showed a cool video clip, which attempted to make the tournament look exciting, kind of like a Monster Truck Rally.
Fallon said that Kevin Eubanks was sitting in with the house band, The Roots. Then, he talked about Red Nose Day, which will be tomorrow, and he said that Dwayne Johnson and Meghan Trainor (with John Legend) will be on tomorrow.
Fallon then announced that David Duchnovny and Jeff Foxworthy will be on, and they will play a special edition of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? He said that Pitbull will be the musical guest, and added “Every time he’s on, he blows everybody’s pants off. Literally — everybody leaves without pants. His face is the world.” Announcer Steve Higgins said “That’s why they call him ‘Worldwide.'”
Jimmy Fallon then said a fact that he read that had disturbed him, about America’s kids ranking 30th in the world in math. He updated math, so that numbers were no longer involved. For instance, Fallon said “the State of Florida + the Space Bar = Flo Rida,” and “Little John + John Wayne = Little John Wayne. Christina Aguilera + DeflateGate + Apple = Christina Applegate.” Another updated math problem was “Peanuts + M&Ms = Trail Mix,” and the last one Fallon said was “An Island + a Bee + Johann Sebastian Bach = ‘I’ll Be Bach.'”
When the Tonight Show returned, Jeff Foxworthy introduced the special edition of “Are You Smrter Than a Fifth Grader?” Jimmy Fallon competed against — Pitbull. Fallon had a boy, Tres, helping him, while Pitbull had a girl helping him, Angela. Foxworthy explained the rules, and the game was on.
Jimmy Fallon went first. Tres suggested going with a big one. Fallon went with a Fourth Grade Grammer Question. Foxworthy asked him “In the sentence ‘Questlove is a very good drummer,’ which part of the sentence is ‘very’?” Fallon was talking it out loud, and thought it might be an adjective. He used his cheat on the first question. Tres told him “It’s an adverb.” That was the correct answer.
Angela sugested that Pitbull go with “Fifth Grade Chemistry.” Then, she said “Second Grade Astronomy,” which Pitbull ended up choosing.
Foxworthy said “In our solar system, which planet is farthest from the Sun?” Pitbull thought about it, and he said “Neptune.” Foxworthy said “Actually, Neptune is absolutely right!” They were apparently not counting Pluto as a planet.
“In miles, how far is the Earth from the Sun, right now?” Foxworthy asked both Fallon and Pitbull. Fallon locked in “20,000 miles.” Pitbull said “If I fly there on a plane…” Foxworthy said “You can’t get there on a plane.”
Pitbull doubled Fallon’s answer and said “40,000 miles.” The answer was actually over 90,000 miles, but Pitbull came the closest to getting it right, so he was declared the winner of the game.
Back from a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest, actor David Duchovny, who stars in Aquarius. Fallon asked Duchovny about what an adverb was, and Duchovny said “Your young patriot was right.”
Jimmy Fallon asked him questions about high school. Duchovny said “It is a rather unfortunate name, but I was the ‘Head Boy’ in high school.”
Fallon mentioned Duchovny’s album, saying “it’s getting great reviews.”
“Your kids support that?” Fallon asked him.
“No, absolutely not,” Duchovny replied. Fallon asked him about his doing X-Files again, and Duchovny answered that he was going to do it again.
With Aquarius, though it will premiere on May 28 on NBC, then it will be offered live-streaming, like Netflix and Hulu does. Duchovny plays a detective who tracks down a missing teen daughter, and he finds out she is now living in a hippy commune with somebody called Charles Manson.” Fallon then showed a clip from the series. Duchovny beat up some guy, and then he wrote “Snitch” on his forehead.
After more commercials, when the Tonight Show came back on, Jimmy Fallon introduced Jeff Foxworthy, who will once again be hosting Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? when it returns to Fox later this month. Fallon asked him about having appeared on the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was the host. He made Carson laugh and got invited to take a seat and talk with him.
Foxworthy said that when he started out doing comedy, people criticized him for his accent. One place had valet parking at a bowling alley. Foxworthy told them “You think that you don’t have Rednecks here? You have valet parking at a bowling alley!”
Foxworthy said his first “Redneck” joke was “If your mother has a spit can on her ironing board, you might be a Redneck.” Fallon laughed and mentioned a couple of others, and then the Tonight Show went to yet another commercial break.
Following the break, Jimmy Fallon introduced Pitbull, who sang both Fun and Time of Our Lives off of his latest album, Globalization. He sang Fun with Chris Brown at the Billboard Music Awards show this past Sunday. He has sung Time of Our Lives before with Ne-Yo. Pitbull was FANTASTIC, and the hot-looking female backup dancers were also spectacular. Pitbull had the audience clapping along, and he put on an AMAZING performance.
Besides Pitbull’s awesome musical performance to close out the Tonight Show, he was great playing the game against Jimmy Fallon, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. Fallon’s first guest, David Duchovny, talked with Fallon about his high school days a little bit, and also about his upcoming T.V. series on NBC, Aquarius, playing a detective who finds himself involved with Charlie Manson’s crazy cult as he attempts to locate a missing teen daughter for a family. Jeff Foxworthy talked with Fallon about his early start in comedy, and about once again being the host of “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”
