Netflix turns to thoughts of summer as it continues its mission to provide subscribers with an impressive collection of new viewing options available for streaming in June 2015. Spring has essentially come and gone while summer is on the horizon. The streaming media service continues to up its game by providing viewers a wide array of entertainment options that include classic movies, Netflix original programming and content, as well as new movie and TV show releases. Here are some of the new viewing options available for streaming on Netflix in June 2015.
On June 1, the Martin Scorsese-directed 2004 biopic, The Aviator, about iconic Hollywood Director and Pilot Howard Hughes will be added to the streaming service’s collection. The film starred Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic) and Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine). Other titles that will be added to Netflix on the same date include 2014’s The Perfect Dictatorship, which is a documentary about TV MX’s (Mexico’s most powerful TV affiliate) expose involving Mexican Governor Carmelo Vargas’ connection to illicit business and organized crime, along with 2002’s The Magdalene Sisters, which is the tale of three young Irish women struggling to endure dehumanizing abuse as inmates of a Magdalene Sisters Asylum.
On June 3, the romantic flick, The Best of Me, will make its way to the streaming service. Based on the Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, the dramatic tear-jerker stars James Marsden (Ally McBeal) and Michelle Monaghan (Fort Bliss) as a pair of high school sweethearts who reunite after many years when they return to their small hometown for a funeral and discover their fates are on a collision course. On June 6, the semi-autobiographical film On the Road will join the Netflix lineup. Based on the novel by Jack Kerouac, the movie stars Amy Adams (American Hustle), Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and Kristen Stewart (Twilight). The film recounts a 1960s cross-country journey taken by young writer Sal Paradise, who is the film version of Kerouac, and how his life is impacted by the mix of people he meets during the sojourn.
Additional new viewing options available for streaming on Netflix in June 2015 include the romantic drama Words and Pictures (2013). The movie stars Clive Owen (The Boys Are Back) and Juliette Binoche (Clouds of Sils Maria) as teachers who form a rivalry and romance that ends up in a competition over whether words or pictures are a more relevant form of expression. Meanwhile, the critically panned Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut) flick, Grace of Monaco, becomes available for viewing on June 8. In the film, Kidman’s Grace Kelly suffers a crisis of marriage and identity in the early 1960s, during a political dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles de Gaulle, which threatened the future of Monaco. The movie also starred Tim Roth (TV’s Lie to Me) and Paz Vega (Spanglish).
On June 10, the film noir Nightcrawler (2014) will become available for streaming on Netflix. In the film, Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) plays Lou Bloom, an ambitious man driven to succeed and break into the world of crime journalism. Rene Russo (The Thomas Crown Affair) plays his TV news editor who experiences the depths of Lou’s depravity. Meanwhile, another viewing option that will be added on the same date is Season 5 of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars.
One of the most highly anticipated new viewing options available for streaming on Netflix in June 2015 includes the third season of its critically acclaimed original series Orange Is the New Black (OITNB), which will become available for viewing on June 12. The ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary are back and ready to rumble. Orange Is the New Black has become the crown jewel of the streaming media giant’s impressive and expanding lineup of original series. The ensemble cast includes Taylor Schilling (Stay), Taryn Manning (Crossroads), and Kate Mulgrew (TV’s Ryan’s Hope). For TV lovers, the addition of some ABC series are on tap for June including Season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on June 11 and the fourth season of Scandal on June 13. Moreover, Season 6 of the cable family drama Heartland will become available for viewing on June 17.
For drama fans, A Most Wanted Man (2014), which is one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final films, is a must-see viewing option and will debut on June 19. Hoffman (God’s Pocket), along with Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Robin Wright (House of Cards), delivers a performance for the ages. Another dramatic gem joining the streaming service’s collection on June 20 is 2014’s Cake, which features star Jennifer Aniston (Friends) in a tour de force performance about a woman suffering from chronic pain and profound loss.
As Netflix turns to thoughts of summer, the streaming service has many new viewing options available for streaming in June 2015. Additional new titles that will help round out the streaming media giant’s offerings for the month that welcomes warmer weather and thoughts of summer include the film Beyond the Lights (2014) on June 24, which starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw (TV’s Touch) and Minnie Driver (TV’s About a Boy). The film centers on two young lovers who are brought together in a unorthodox way and must deal with the consequences. Other viewing options include the addition of the film The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) on June 27. The movie starred Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) and Kiefer Sutherland (TV’s 24) in a political thriller drama based on the 2007 novel. The film follows a young Pakistani man as he chases Wall Street success. However, he finds himself embroiled in a conflict between a hostage crisis, the American Dream, and a lingering allegiance to his family’s homeland. With summer on the horizon, Netflix will continue to expand its vast offerings of new viewing options available for streaming in June 2015 to keep subscribers entertained.
